Aston Villa ‘may be ready to move on’ from McGinn after Everton transfer news – Exclusive

Goodison News presents the exclusive opinion of iconic football commentator Ian Darke.

Aston Villa could allow Everton target John McGinn to move on this summer.

David Moyes is keen to add to his ranks in the engine room ahead of the new campaign, which is just three weeks away.

The Blues have been linked with the likes of Hayden Hackney and Florentino Luis, but Moyes’ fellow Scotsman may be the most sensible target.

Whether he can be prised away from last season’s Champions League quarter-finalists remains to be seen, though.

McGinn could join Everton as Villa stance emerges

Whether Moyes could persuade Villa to sell one of their star assets is a huge question mark ahead of the return of Premier League football.

Ian Darke believes that the Villans could be tempted to sell the Scottish international.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, he said: “I suppose it depends what kind of business that Villa do, but if you look back over Villa’s season, McGinn is nearly always a starter for them.

“He has been a tremendous signing for them, he only cost them around £3-3.5million from Hibernian several years ago, he has given fantastic service.

“He scores goals for Scotland, they sometimes use him a little to the left, he can play further forward than one of the two holders.

“So, you are buying one of the most experienced footballers you could pick up in that kind of middle-range bracket.

“It may depend on what, I haven’t heard what Emery is thinking about his lineup for this season, but it may be that he is getting to an age. I would have thought he still had a few effective seasons for Villa, but they may have other ideas.

“Not totally sure of all the circumstances, but if he is being linked with Everton, I guess there is a bit of smoke coming from Birmingham that Villa may be ready to move on from him.”

Everton should go all out for McGinn

The 30-year-old would represent a huge upgrade for the Blues, as he has plenty of experience at the top level.

He would raise the levels at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, as he notched 10 goal involvements in 49 matches last season, playing in the Champions League too.

It would be a real coup for the Toffees if they could secure his signature, so the Friedkin Group need to go all out to try and get him.
