James Tarkowksi reacts as big-name Wrexham transfer now confirmed

Wrexham have big plans to push for the Premier League, potentially taking on the likes of Everton at the glamorous Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The Welsh club have welcomed several notable players since Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney completed their takeover in 2021.

Former Premier League players, such as Ben Foster, James McClean, and Jay Rodriguez, have made their way to The Stok Racecourse, with Wrexham rising the ranks with their aid.

The Red Dragons are now preparing for their first season in the Championship, as they look to complete a fairy-tale rise from playing in the National League in 2023.

Tarkowski reacts to Windass move

Wrexham have confirmed the signing of Josh Windass, who was available on a free transfer following his departure from Sheffield Wednesday.

The midfielder left the Owls by mutual agreement, with the Yorkshire club suffering from several financial embargoes prompted by the ongoing issues relating to owner Dejphon Chansiri.

Windass signed for Wednesday in 2020, following a loan move from Wigan Athletic.

He would go on to score 53 goals and provide 23 assists in 182 games in South Yorkshire and enjoyed a great individual campaign in the Championship last season.

Several clubs were said to be interested in a move for the 31-year-old, who previously spent time with Rangers, but Wrexham ultimately won the race.

Windass took to Instagram (23 July) to share the news, writing: “New chapter, me and my family are delighted to join this club. Let’s go.”

Everton defender Tarkowski liked the post, the two having presumably crossed paths during their careers.

Sheffield Wednesday situation paints cruel Everton reminder

Sheffield Wednesday’s situation under the ownership of Chansiri will prompt some memories for Everton fans, with the Toffees also suffering at the hands of an irresponsible businessman.

Farhad Moshiri’s share in the club was finally bought out at the end of 2024 by the Friedkin Group, after years of financial irresponsibility had left the finances in chaos.

Everton reported massive losses year in, year out, and were punished by the Premier League with two points deductions under the Profit and Sustainability Rules.

Mismanagement on the pitch, as well as off it, left the Toffees fighting relegation over several recent years, but fans will hope the Friedkins’ intervention has turned over a new leaf in their history.
