Everton learn fate of £21m-plus target, deal to be finalised in next 48 hours
Everton are attempting to strengthen their squad, but it has not been an easy process so far.
Thierno Barry is the only key signing to arrive this summer, and more reinforcements are needed across the pitch ahead of the new season.
Everton are in the USA for their pre-season tour, but the squad is currently lacking depth, and the transfer window has been a struggle.
David Moyes was keen on one player, but faces frustration over another target as a deal has now been agreed elsewhere.

Everton lose out on Samuel Lino transfer
It was recently reported that Everton were keen on Atletico Madrid star Samuel Lino, who had been earmarked for an exit by the Spanish giants.
The Brazilian winger was of interest to the Toffees, with Lino capable of playing in several roles, but they have now been beaten to his signature.
Brazilian giants Flamengo are enjoying a financial boost following the Club World Cup, and have now usurped Everton in the race to sign Lino, with a deal now close to completion.
Fabrizio Romano has now reported that Lino is close to a move to Flamengo, with a £21.8 million deal agreed, and it could all be completed within the next 48 hours.
If Everton truly wanted to sign Lino, then lessons have to be learned as to how this deal was not completed.

At less than £22m, Lino could have been an excellent signing as an option on the left wing, and Everton will now have to look elsewhere.
Extra reinforcements are needed in attacking areas, and these will need to be made quickly as the season fast approaches.

Jack Grealish has been linked with a loan move, but at least two more attacking players will be necessary, with limited options on the right wing.
More speed is also necessary to complement Ililman Ndiaye and Carlos Alcaraz, but Everton’s frustrating window so far may mean Moyes is left short for the opening weeks of the season.
Everton are on pre-season tour without Jarrad Branthwaite, and preparations have been far from ideal so far as they are winless in two friendly games.
