Malick Fofana’s potential move to Everton is a story that has exploded into life in recent days.
The Toffees are keen to bring the 20-year-old to the Premier League, after an impressive 2024/25 campaign saw him notch 11 goals and five assists for Lyon in all competitions.
Everton have emerged as the frontrunner to sign Fofana, and the Belgian could be about to become the latest star to join the new era at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Everton have now materialised their interest in Fofana, having sent an initial bid to Lyon and also commenced talks with the player himself.
The French giants are open to entering discussions over a potential sale of Fofana if an offer in the region of £34.9million is tabled, but the Merseysiders are slightly shy of that figure at the moment, with their bid of £31.4m.
Contract terms with Fofana and his representatives are expected to progress quickly, and it seems as though Everton’s pursuit of the wideman could become similarly intense.
The situation surrounding the youngster has developed rapidly throughout Saturday (26 July), and amid the speculation around his future, he has been featuring in Lyon’s latest pre-season friendly.
Paulo Fonseca’s side triumphed 4-0 away from home against newly-promoted Bundesliga side Hamburg, and Fofana got their goalscoring up and running in the early stages, as he converted following a set piece.

Everton fans will be buzzing to see that their potential new star is still having a sustained impact on his side as speculation surrounding his future hots up, and they will surely be desperate to see him showcase that talent in their colours this term.
Fofana would be a brilliant signing for the Toffees
Thierno Barry’s arrival at Everton is certainly a step in the right direction as far as their attacking options are concerned for this season, but Moyes still needs to add in his wide areas.
Iliman Ndiaye has proven himself to be a fantastic outlet on one flank, but aside from the Senegalese star, the Toffees are badly lacking players who are direct and will create problems for full-backs with the ball at their feet.
Fofana is a player who would bring pace and energy to the frontline, and that could go a long way to making Moyes’ charges a little less predictable in the final third.
It looks as though The Friedkin Group will have to part with a hefty sum to bring him in, but Fofana is the kind of player who could be capable of repaying that price tag very quickly indeed.
