Atalanta line up Everton star Beto after £58m+ transfer agreement

Beto could be moved on by Everton in the summer window.

Everton are starting to accelerate their transfer plans this summer, though question marks still remain over the future of Beto.

The Toffees forward was linked with an exit from Merseyside earlier in the window, with Leeds said to have been one of the teams keen on signing him.

However, Atalanta have now linked with a move after the Serie A outfit reached an agreement for a transfer.

Beto emerges as Atalanta target

Beto has had a tough time at Everton, though he did enjoy somewhat of a purple patch under David Moyes in the Premier League last season.

However, an exit may be back on the cards for the forward, with a report from the print edition of Gazzetta Dello Sport (page 11, 27 July) stating that he is one of several targets being assessed by Atalanta.

The Serie A side have recently sold striker Mateo Retegui to Al-Qadsiah in a deal worth around £58.8million [ESPN], leaving them in need of a direct replacement.

Beto was previously mooted for a £30m switch away from Merseyside, meaning it would likely have to be a similar fee to prize him away from the Toffees.

Everton cannot sanction Beto exit without replacement

Thierno Barry could well be the number one choice for Everton this season, though, on paper, he is a replacement for Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Losing Beto would then leave the Toffees with just one striker, who has a distinct lack of Premier League experience, but also a lack of experience in general.

If he is to leave this summer, Moyes needs to see a second striker come through the door first, before they give the green light to any transfer.

Time is on their side, but things need to start moving quickly.
