Douglas Luiz to snub Everton – Three midfielders Moyes could sign instead
Everton were keen on signing Douglas Luiz from Juventus, but a deal now looks unlikely to materialise.
Luiz is set to leave Juventus in the coming weeks, but is reportedly keen on joining a top club in England, indicating that he wants to play in the UEFA Champions League.
The Brazilian is ready to snub interest from Everton, and the Toffees need midfield reinforcements.
Goodison News has now listed three potential alternatives for David Moyes this summer, in what is a busy transfer window for Everton.

Josh Brownhill – free agent
Although not the flashiest name on paper, Josh Brownhill could be a very shrewd signing for Everton this summer.
The 29-year-old left Burnley despite starring as they earned 100 points in the Championship, and Everton were previously linked with the midfielder.
Brownhill scored 18 times in 42 Championship games last season from central midfield, while also contributing to the best defence in the division, and on a free transfer, would be an experienced pickup for Moyes to bolster the squad.

Hayden Hackney – Middlesbrough
Middlesbrough star Hayden Hackney is another player who could be targeted after thriving in the Championship, and represents a younger option than Brownhill or Luiz.
The 23-year-old has been linked with a move to Everton for around £15 million, and having made 43 appearances in the Championship last season, he could be the next rising star to make the step up.
| Season | Apps | Goals | Assists |
| 2024/25 | 43 | 5 | 3 |
| 2023/24 | 21 | 1 | – |
| 2022/23 | 36 | 3 | 4 |
Hackney could be Everton’s own Adam Wharton, and would be another young but experienced signing who can make a long-term impact.
Wilfred Ndidi – Leicester City
Everton were strongly linked with Wilfred Ndidi when it appeared that Idrissa Gana Gueye could leave the club, but a move still cannot be ruled out.
Ndidi is available for just £9m, and would provide a wealth of experience in the Everton midfield, and as a defensively robust box-to-box player, he is a similar profile to Luiz, but a much cheaper alternative.
Leicester’s relegation has meant that Ndidi is almost certain to move this summer, and he could be a shrewd pickup just like Gueye was back in 2016.
