David Moyes to be delighted as Everton commence Jamie Vardy talks

David Moyes has endured a mixed few months in charge of Everton.

The Scot oversaw a fantastic turnaround in the second half of the 2024/25 campaign to steer the Toffees safely away from the drop zone, but they have been poor throughout pre-season so far.

The Merseysiders remain winless in their summer preparations and were beaten 3-0 by Bournemouth in the Premier League’s Summer Series on Sunday (27 July).

Moyes spoke about his frustration at the way Everton’s transfer window has played out following that latest defeat, but he will now surely be delighted following the Toffees’ latest move.

Vardy ‘very close’ to Premier League return as Everton open talks

Everton are one of several sides that have shown an interest in Jamie Vardy this summer, with the frontman now a free agent after calling time on his 13-year stint at Leicester City.

There has been plenty of speculation about where the 38-year-old’s future will lie, but now it appears that he could be on the verge of securing another deal in the top flight.

Vardy is understood to be “very close” to securing an agreement to see him return to the Premier League, with Everton showing the most initiative to bring him in, according to Fichajes (27 July).

The Toffees are thought to have already opened talks with the veteran striker, and the player’s camp are keen to explore all possible options for next term.

The likes of Wolves and Sunderland have also made contact with the striker, but Everton are believed to be making the most serious proposition at the moment.

Manchester United are also thought to be lurking in the background.

Vardy’s arrival would delight Moyes

Moyes wants further attacking additions at Everton, and he would undoubtedly be delighted if The Friedkin Group could secure a deal to bring Vardy to the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The striker showed that he still has plenty to give last time out, as he ended the campaign with nine goals and four assists to his name in the Premier League.

Moyes’ charges badly lacked a regular and reliable goal threat in 2024/25, and securing a signing who can keep opposition defences on their toes will be crucial to their hopes this term.

If The Fredikin Group can present an attractive proposal to the former Leicester man, then he could be the ideal addition to help bring additional firepower to the Toffees’ frontline.

They already have two decent options to lead the line in Beto and Thierno Barry, and that would potentially allow them to shelter Vardy to some degree and keep him limited to minutes that will be manageable for a player of his age.

Moyes may have grown frustrated by Everton’s window so far, but things would surely change if he could add Vardy to his ranks.
