Douglas Luiz set for fine as he pushes to seal Everton transfer agreement

Everton could be closing in on the signature of former Aston Villa star Douglas Luiz.

The Brazilian maestro wants to return to the Premier League after his move to Juventus turned sour.

The 27-year-old featured just 19 times in Serie A last season and looks set to leave Turin this summer to play more regularly, but not without trouble first.

The Hill Dickinson Stadium outfit can offer a starring role in the engine room, with David Moyes looking for more steel in the position.

Luiz set for fine as Everton agreement close

Everton have identified Luiz as the man to take Moyes’ midfield to the next level, and his plans to quit Italy are well documented.

Juventus want a loan with a buy option, something which may be very appealing to the Toffees.

La Gazzetta dello Sport has reported in its print edition (page 8, 28 July) that Luiz is set to be fined by the Old Lady as he pushes for the move to the Blues.

The former Villa star was absent from the training camp that started last Thursday, and will lose five per cent of his salary, approximately £34,000, as a result.

Luiz would be a great capture for Everton

Luiz has a vast amount of top-flight experience from his time with the Villans, and would not need to adapt to the English game.

In his time in B6, he was one of the best holding midfielders in the league, and he could replicate that form under Moyes.

The Blues have been linked with Middlesbrough star Hayden Hackney and Benfica’s Florentino Luis, but Luiz is the best option if they can sort a deal.

Top-class midfielders are not readily available, with the Toffees already being turned down after they made an approach for current Villa star John McGinn.

Luiz would give Moyes exactly what he is looking for, a real bite and tenacity in the middle of the park and that will ultimately make his side better and allow them to rise up the table.

Signing a player of his quality would be a real sign of the Friedkin Group‘s ambition and would allow Moyes to take Everton closer to his European qualification dream.
