Everton could seal last-gasp Douglas Luiz transfer agreement in ‘high-cost’ signing

Everton’s transfer window up until this point has been underwhelming.

Whilst the arrivals of Mark Travers, Carlos Alcaraz and Thierno Barry all appear to be solid additions on paper, the number of signings has been disappointing.

David Moyes has admitted the Blues are behind where he ideally wanted them to be at this point in the summer in terms of new arrivals, with news like this potentially upsetting the likes of Barry.

The Toffees are continuing to identify ambitious targets like Douglas Luiz in the market, but getting them over the line is a different proposition entirely.

Luiz could join Everton in ‘high-cost’ loan deal

Jack Grealish is another name to be linked with a move to Merseyside, as The Friedkin Group cannot be accused of showing a lack of desire to secure top-quality players for Moyes.

Following Luiz’s underwhelming move to Juventus from Aston Villa, the Brazilian midfielder has been linked with a move back to the Premier League after just one season.

Whilst at Villa, Luiz became one of the best midfielders in the English top flight, and Everton will be hoping they can resurrect the 27-year-old’s career at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

La Gazzetta Dello Sport has reported in its print edition (29 July, pg 11) that Everton, along with West Ham and Nottingham Forest, are interested in Luiz.

To secure the Brazilian’s signature, the move would likely be a “high-cost” loan with an option to buy.

It is said that those interested in Luiz may wait until later in the window to attempt to secure the move, as Juventus will want to get the midfielder off their books before the new season.

Luiz would be a wonderful signing for Moyes

With a move for Malick Fofana now looking unlikely, Everton cannot afford to miss out on Luiz, as some of these targets need to actually come to fruition if Moyes wants to have a successful debut campaign in Everton’s new stadium.

Supporters’ opinion was split when the club decided to release Abdoulaye Doucoure, but it would be unanimously agreed that the Brazilian would represent a massive upgrade in the Toffees’ engine room.

Getting a deal over the line won’t be easy, considering the interest from other clubs, but if Everton want to climb the league table, then beating some of their Premier League rivals to new signings is necessary.
