The 29-year-old, who has been linked with the Toffees in the past, has left Turf Moor after five years with the Lancashire-based team.

Taking to Instagram (28 July), he shared an image of himself waving and a message to supporters, saying: “Always a Claret.”

McNeil liked the post from his former teammate.

Everton could strike Luiz loan late

Everton could strike a transfer for Douglas Luiz in the later stages of the transfer window.

A report from La Gazzetta Dello Sport (page 11, 29 July) claims that Everton want the former Aston Villa man on a “high-cost” loan-to-buy deal.

It states that the Toffees, West Ham and Nottingham Forest may wait until late in the window to secure the loan, as the Italian side will want him off the books.

Grealish accepts Man City exit amid Everton interest

Everton target Jack Grealish has accepted a Manchester City exit and looks set to leave the Etihad Stadium outfit.

talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook claimed (29 July) that the Toffees are keen on the 29-year-old, who will likely have to take a wage cut to join Moyes’ side.

Speaking on the platform (8:40 am), he said: “I’m told he has accepted that his City career is over.

“Everton and West Ham are two of the clubs keen on signing him on loan from the Premier League, but I think there is going to be some negotiating to be done.

“He earns around £300,000-a-week, obviously that would be too rich for Everton, so, either he is going to have to take a pay cut, or Manchester City, if they do agree to loan him out, would have to supplement those wages.”
