Everything you need to know about new Everton man Adam Aznou – La Masia roots and wowing Kompany

Everton have confirmed the signing of teenage left-back Adam Aznou from Bayern Munich.

The Morocco international joins from the Bundesliga champions in a deal worth around £8million, after spending the second half of last season on loan at Real Valladolid.

Aznou is expected to supply competition for Vitaliy Mykolenko, with Everton needing further depth following the departure of Ashley Young.

From Barcelona to Everton

Aznou was born in Catalonia, starting his football career with local youth club CF Damm.

There, he was spotted by Spanish giants Barcelona, who added him to their crop of talents at the iconic La Masia.

Many of the greatest footballers of today, and of all time, have emerged from the legendary academy, but Aznou was keen to forge his own path.

He left for Bayern Munich in 2022, working his way through the youth teams and ultimately making his debut for Die Roten in November 2024.

Speaking after the match, manager Vincent Kompany said: “Adam has done well in training and also with the national team. He can be proud, his parents can be proud and happy.”

But after failing to appear in any of Bayern’s following 10 Bundesliga games, Aznou was loaned out to Valladolid.

Upon his return, his intention was clear. He handed in a transfer request and is now looking to take his development to the next level in the Premier League.

What can Everton fans expect from Aznou?

Aznou was highly rated in Germany and Spain for a reason. The teenager is raw, but intense, and technically superb.

With a taller, slighter frame, the defender will likely take time to adapt to the physicality of the Premier League, but his impressive pace and reading of the game will fit in from the off.

The stats are impressive, too. According to FBref, Aznou ranked in the 98th percentile for tackles won, the 99th for blocks, the 99th for dribblers tackled, and the 98th for successful take-ons among his positional peers in the big five leagues last season.

Often sliding in to make his tackles, the 19-year-old is unafraid to flatten his opponent – a trait The Hill Dickinson Stadium faithful are sure to love.

Most importantly, Aznou is not afraid of competition. The defender has been ready to fight for his development throughout his career and that will not change at Everton.

You only have to look at the fact that the talent was awarded player of the match on his debut for the Morocco national team to prove as much.

For £8m, Toffees fans can be very pleased with their newest arrival.
