Idrissa Gueye sends three-word message as Everton finalise transfer

Everton have made their third new signing of the summer transfer window.

The arrivals of Thierno Barry and Mark Travers have already bolstered David Moyes’ options, but the Scot is hoping to further fill out a squad lacking depth.

A number of players departed at the end of the season, including Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Abdoulaye Doucoure, leaving the Toffees short in several areas.

And decision-makers at The Hill Dickinson Stadium look to have finally kicked into life, with the season opener against Leeds United less than three weeks away.

Everton complete Aznou signing

Everton announced the signing of defender Adam Aznou on Tuesday (29 July), with the Morocco international arriving from Bayern Munich in a deal worth around £8million.

The 19-year-old is chiefly expected to provide competition for Vitaliy Mykolenko, but also has experience playing in several other positions, including at left wing and right back.

Aznou joined Bayern in 2022 after leaving Barcelona’s famous academy La Masia.

He eventually made his debut for the German giants last season, but was loaned out to Spanish club Real Valladolid in January.

Aznou is eager for game time

Aznou returned to feature briefly at the Club World Cup, but a desire for consistent game time prompts his move to Everton.

The Toffees took to Instagram to celebrate the youngster’s arrival, with midfielder Idrissa Gana Gueye commenting: “Welcome little brother”.

It is unclear how, or if, the two already know each other, but Everton fans will be glad to see one of the club’s older players willing to take Aznou under his wing.

Everton must kick on after Aznou signing

Everton will not have long to rest on their laurels following the signing of Aznou.

Moyes’ squad still lacks key depth in several areas, including in defence – where just three senior centre-backs are of selection to the Scot.

A winger is also hoped to arrive in the coming weeks, with Dwight McNeil currently the only senior option out wide at The Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Lyon winger and exciting prospect Malick Fofa has been the subject of serious interest from Everton, who are reportedly in advanced talks over a deal to sign the Frenchman.

But the 20-year-old, who scored 11 goals for the French side last season, is reportedly prioritising a move to a club able to offer Champions League football.
