‘If I’m wrong, this latest finance update is bad news for Everton’

The Friedkin Group are continuing its restructuring of Everton as they look to take the Toffees back to the top of English football.

While the transfer window so far has been underwhelming, Everton’s owners are continuing to work hard behind the scenes.

The Toffees are due to move into the Hill Dickinson Stadium this season, in what has been a busy summer for the Merseyside club.

Now, reports have emerged that The Friedkin Group have now completed a deal to ‘sell’ Everton’s Women’s team, in another massive deal.

Stefan Borson sceptical about benefits of Everton Women sale

Many Premier League teams have sold their women’s sides over the past 12 months to help combat PSR concerns.

Chelsea and Aston Villa were the first two sides to go down this route, with the Toffees now appearing to follow suit.

However, reports have claimed that Everton are not “doing a Chelsea” with the ‘sale’ of the women’s team, since their transfer of ownership has not generated a vast profit in itself.

Instead, it has been reported that the profit will be created when new investors are attracted to the women’s team.

However, Stefan Borson remains sceptical about this claim. On his official X account (29 July), he stated: “Very hard to verify the rationale from the outside.

“But logic says a) you don’t need to pre-emptively move the asset before year-end and before finding the 3rd party (it could all be done at completion), b) once moved, the PSR trick is extinguished.

“I remain sceptical they would have moved it without the principal initial objective of PSR. Bad for EFC if I’m wrong.”

The Friedkin Group should have left Everton Women alone

Amid all this talk, the one party that will receive little to no benefit are Everton Women

The squad are the latest WSL team to be messed around by their owners to potentially aid the men’s side.

Given the recent success of the England Lionesses, it is no doubt in poor taste that Everton’s owners have looked to pursue this now.

While it is no doubt a loophole that many of their Premier League rivals have been exploring, morally, it is poor from the Toffees.
