Malick Fofana suffers fresh injury blow after Everton transfer bid
Everton are interested in Lyon sensation Malick Fofana, but there has now been a twist over his future.
The Toffees made a formal offer to Lyon for Fofana in recent days, but this was rejected with the French side holding out for a big fee.
Everton need to add attacking firepower to the squad, and at least one winger is an absolute necessity in this transfer window.
Fofana would be an excellent addition if Everton can beat Liverpool, who are also reportedly interested, to his signature, but any plans to bring him in quickly will now be scuppered.

Fofana suffers injury in Lyon training
Fofana could be heading to the Premier League this summer, but any transfer will now have to wait a few more weeks.
As reported by French outlet RMC Sport (29 July), Fofana has suffered a concussion after a blow to the head in training on Monday (28 July).
Season | Apps | Goals | Assists |
2024/25 | 41 | 11 | 5 |
2023/24 | 21 | 4 | – |

Concussion protocol means that he will miss training for the next 10 days and will miss Lyon’s friendlies against Mallorca and Bayern Munich.
With Liverpool and Everton both keen on a deal, they will have to wait for Fofana to recover before he can pass a medical, and if and when he does sign, he will be lacking in fitness after missing training and match practice.

Fofana would cost well above £30 million, and would be a huge coup for Everton if they can beat several other clubs to his signature.
Liverpool’s interest may be of worry to the Toffees, given that their rivals can afford a higher fee, but David Moyes could offer Fofana more guaranteed game time.
Everton have faced frustration over several targets this summer, with the likes of Samuel Lino moving elsewhere, and they may need a rethink if they cannot land Fofana.
An ambitious move for Jack Grealish has been mooted, and a loan deal would be a lot cheaper as an overall package than a big-money move for Fofana.
Adam Aznou and Thierno Barry have joined so far, but Everton need more reinforcements ahead of the Premier League season.
