Hayden Hackney to clear medical as Everton eye transfer

Everton are reportedly keen on signing Middlesbrough midfielder Hayden Hackney ahead of Tottenham, Manchester United and Ipswich Town.

The 23-year-old is in demand this summer and appears to be on the verge of leaving the Riverside Stadium.

Last season, he made 43 Championship appearances, scoring five goals and providing three assists.

Hackney is expected to clear medical despite knee injury

Hackney is expected to clear any potential medical in the coming weeks, despite his recent knee injury, according to Dr Brar.

It’s understood to only be a minor setback, and Boro do not want to risk him in pre-season.

Speaking about Hackney, Dr Brar told Goodison News: “He’s currently got an issue with his knee, but it’s understood to be a minor one, with the manager talking about not risking things in pre-season.

“Last season, he was available for most of the games, which is a positive. I do not see him facing issues with his medical.”

Everton may have to abandon their pursuit of Hackney

Everton’s pursuit of Hackney may falter due to his reported preference to join Tottenham.

The Englishman has impressed with his ball-playing ability and tenacity, fitting Moyes’ midfield vision.

However, Spurs’ interest, bolstered by their UEFA Champions League status, aligns with Hackney’s ambitions, giving them the edge.

Everton are likely to focus on Douglas Luiz, whose Premier League experience and versatility better address their immediate need for a dynamic midfielder to bolster survival hopes.

With limited funds and Hackney’s inclination towards Spurs, the Toffees may redirect resources to secure Luiz, abandoning their chase for the Middlesbrough star.
