Moyes makes new transfer admission as Everton time running out

Everton have completed a modest amount of transfer business despite calls for a substantial overhaul.

Thierno Barry is the most significant acquisition for David Moyes, having arrived from Villarreal for £27million.

Elsewhere, Everton have signed Adam Aznou, Mark Travers, and Carlos Alcaraz ahead of the new season.

Speaking after the Toffees’ 2-2 draw with Man United, Moyes addressed the Merseyside outfit’s current transfer situation.

Moyes hints at imminent Everton transfers

Everton have been linked with a move for Assane Diao, although the winger has been valued at £65.4million.

A more affordable target for Moyes could be FC Midtjylland’s Franculino, who reportedly impressed Arsenal scouts in 2024.

Alcaraz, Barry, and Aznou all featured against Man United last night, while Travers was an unused substitute.

After the draw, Moyes spoke to the media about signings and detailed how more could be through the door this week, according to Tony Scott (4 August).

He said: “I think there’ll be deals this week. We’re getting much closer but I’ve got to say I felt that four or five weeks ago as well.

“But obviously we’re getting near the tickley bits soon and we’ve got to get some things done. We need to get some of the main players in quickly”.

What positions must Everton strengthen?

Just under 10 players departed Goodison Park at the end of last season, and there are still several gaps to fill.

The wing is a primary area of need as the Merseyside club currently have two options across either flank in Dwight McNeil and Iliman Ndiaye.

In defence, Seamus Coleman and Nathan Patterson are options on the right, but Coleman cannot be expected to contribute too much next season.

Moyes has four options in the hub of his backline, but another quality addition would ease the burden on Jarrad Branthwaite and James Tarkowski.

Everton are in a tricky situation where they need to sign several players, and some of the prices reported are substantial.

That might mean the Toffees target loans, which would make Man City outcast Jack Grealish an appealing option.

However, Moyes wants transfers now and has put pressure on the owners after his recent comments.
