Stelling and Pardew disagree amid Dewsbury-Hall to Everton transfer latest

Everton are yet to fully take flight in the transfer market despite completing a handful of signings.

Many predicted substantial changes at the Merseyside club, but there have been more departures than arrivals.

Thierno Barry remains the most significant Everton signing, having completed a £27million move from Villarreal.

Now, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is closing in on a move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium, but not all are convinced.

Dewsbury-Hall verdicts delivered by Stelling and Pardew

Everton have reportedly agreed an initial £25million fee with Chelsea for Dewsbury-Hall, who joined the Blues for £5m more last summer.

The midfielder showed his potential during Leicester City’s Premier League relegation season in 2022/23.

However, it was in the Championship where he truly made his mark, notching 26 goal contributions in 44 appearances.

The central midfielder followed Enzo Maresca to Stamford Bridge, although he has cut a peripheral figure in West London.

Dewsbury-Hall made more of an impact in the Europa Conference League, which the Blues ended up winning.

With the 26-year-old nearing a move to the North West, Jeff Stelling and Alan Pardew were asked on talkSPORT (5 August, 8:06am) if it was a good deal from Everton’s perspective.

Stelling said: “He’s a player I liked very much at Leicester. I thought he did a fantastic job for them and I was surprised when he moved to Stamford Bridge.

“But of course he was moving with his old boss, and he has had no crack of the whip, only two Premier League starts in a year there.

“Twenty-five million? I think he’ll be a great buy for Everton.”

Pardew replied: “I just can’t work out why he hasn’t got a game with Chelsea. Obviously, they’ve got a big group of players.

“I see him on the sidelines, and I think he got a little bit of that final. He was on for a few moments of whatever.

“I can’t see him taking Everton forward, but he’s a good Premier League player, but no not for me.”

Would Dewsbury-Hall be a good signing for Everton?

The 26-year-old may divide opinion given his spell at Chelsea, but he still has something to prove in the top flight.

During his stint with the Foxes, some were calling for the midfielder to be called up to the England team.

While that may have been a stretch too far, he showed that he can perform in the Premier League in a weak team.

At Chelsea, nobody has really seen the best of Dewsbury-Hall, but that has been a level too high for him.

Everton are an interesting fit for the 26-year-old, and it feels like the kind of club where he could thrive again.

Furthermore, at an initial £25million, the Toffees are not breaking the bank for a player who could become a first-team star.

If he can recapture the form he showed at Leicester, then Moyes will be on to a winner.
