Everton ‘not afraid to pay £100,000-a-week’ to seal Josh Brownhill deal amid transfer twist

Everton have emerged as a potential suitor for Josh Brownhill over the last few days.

The midfielder is a free agent having left Burnley earlier in the summer, despite playing a crucial role in their Championship promotion campaign last time out.

Everton have shown an interest in bringing Brownhill to Merseyside this term, after he notched an impressive 18 goals from the middle of the park in 2024/25.

David Moyes has been vocal about the need for further additions to his squad, and it appears that he and The Friedkin Group may now have the 29-year-old in their sights.

Everton ‘wouldn’t be afraid’ of matching £100,000-per-week offer

Everton have recently had the reality of their pursuit for Brownhill made clear to them, as news of an offer from the MLS has broken in recent days.

Toronto FC are understood to have tabled a contract offer worth around £100,000-a-week for the midfielder, according to GiveMeSport (2 August).

The former Bristol City man is unsurprisingly strongly considering making the move to the Canadian side, but Everton may be able to sway him with the offer of Premier League football.

Ex-Goodison scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Goodison News – believes that Brownhill would be a good fit for Moyes’ side, and also feels that the Toffees would not shy away from handing him a hefty contract.

“I think Everton would certainly be a good move for him (Brownhill),” King said.

“It would be better than playing in the MLS, and I don’t think Everton would be afraid of paying £100,000 per week.

“If Everton are interested, then Moyes is going to be interested. He wants 100 per cent from people who play for him.

“I would say Brownhill would add a very good energy and work rate, and he doesn’t seem to cause any problems for his clubs.

“He would definitely be an Everton player.”

The Toffees need to reduce Brownhill’s wages

Brownhill would be an excellent way for Everton to add depth to their midfield for this term, but they should not be entertaining a deal for that kind of wage.

The former Burnley skipper is not yet 30, and the Toffees should therefore be trying to use Premier League football as a key incentive for him to choose them over the MLS, even if that would mean a lower wage.

Brownhill was arguably the Championship’s standout midfielder in 2024/25, and he could well be a perfect fit into the culture that Moyes is trying to create.

However, every player has a price, and Everton must be very careful how much they would be willing to offer to somebody who has come from the second tier.
