Everton and Leeds summer transfer spending compared ahead of Premier League opener
Jack Grealish’s arrival at The Hill Dickinson Stadium will mark Everton’s sixth signing of the summer.
The midfielder will join on loan from Manchester City, after a deal was agreed that will see Everton cover up to half of his £300,000 per week wages.
The Toffees are expected to continue to bolster David Moyes’ squad up to the end of the month, with a second bid expected to submitted for Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn.
Everton had looked to be in for Southampton talent Tyler Dibling, but have since walked away with the Saints determined to stick to their price.
First up in the Premier League for Moyes’ side, is a trip to Elland Road and Premier League promotees, Leeds United on Monday (18 August).

Everton have narrowly spent more than Leeds United
The money involved in promotion to the Premier League can often see promoted teams spend huge amounts of money, whilst teams who have maintained their top-flight status can be found struggling for cash.
Sunderland are a clear example of such, with the Black Cats spending a huge £121million so far this summer, whilst Crystal Palace and Fulham have spent around £2.4m between them.
But Everton are an exception, having spent £75m compared to their soon-to-be opponents Leeds’ £73.5m.
Everton incomings 2025/26 | Leeds incomings 2025/26 |
Thierno Barry | Anton Stach |
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall | Jaka Bijol |
Carlos Alcaraz | Lucas Perri |
Adam Aznou | Sean Longstaff |
Mark Travers | Gabriel Gudmundsson |
Jack Grealish (TBC) | Sebastiaan Bornauw |
Lukas Nmecha |
For the Toffees, the bulk of that expenditure has come in the form of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Thierno Barry, who arrived for £28m and £27m, respectively.
Leeds’ transfer fees have been slightly more spread out, with their most expensive acquisition, German midfielder Anton Stach, costing £17m.
And the Whites have looked to bolster several areas of their squad, also signing defenders in Jaka Bijol, Sebastiaan Bornauw and Gabriel Gudmundsson, and a further midfielder in Sean Longstaff from Newcastle United.
Everton look for quality over quantity
There should be no disillusionment over the aims of each club in the summer transfer window.
Everton, as an established Premier League team, have looked to better their already-existing quality options, whilst Leeds have looked to inject that same quality into a Championship squad.
The signing of Grealish will further prove that theory, with the England international set to add top-level talent to the Toffees’ midfield.
Ultimately, however, transfer fees will not be a factor on Monday night, with both clubs keen to kick their Premier League season off in the best possible way on the pitch.
