Maitland-Niles ‘faces no issues with Everton medical’ if deal progresses

Everton are reportedly keen on bringing former Arsenal right-back Ainsley Maitland-Niles back to the Premier League.

The 27-year-old is currently plying his trade at Lyon, moving to the French club back in 2023.

Since then, he has gone on to make 73 appearances in all competitions for them.

Maitland-Niles not expected to face issues with his medical

Sky Sports journalist Mark McAdam reported on 28 July that Everton are keen on signing Maitland-Niles this summer.

Former Toffees scout Bryan King believes that he would be open to a Premier League return.

Dr Rajpal Brar is bullish about Maitland-Niles’ fitness record as well and expects him to clear his medical before completing a transfer.

Last season, the five-cap England international played 32 out of 34 league games and in the two matches he missed, he was an unused substitute.

Dr Brar told Goodison News: “He suffered no injuries last season and that’s ideal for any club looking to sign him.

“This should mean he faces no issues clearing his medical, either.

“The prior Premier League experience will certainly help him adapt and minimise the risk of injury that exists after moving to a different league.”

David Moyes can get the best out of Maitland-Niles at Everton

Maitland-Niles is poised to thrive under David Moyes at Everton due to his versatility, fitting Moyes’ tactical flexibility.

The 27-year-old’s ability to excel as a right-back or central midfielder addresses Everton’s depth issues in both positions, especially after Ashley Young’s departure.

His Premier League experience and eight goal contributions last season at Lyon showcase his reliability and creativity, aligning with Moyes’ demand for disciplined, dynamic players.

It remains to be seen if the Toffees prioritise a move for him in the coming weeks as he could be their first-choice right-back.
