Jamie Vardy and former Arsenal ace – three free agents Everton could still sign

Everton’s 1-0 defeat at the hands of Leeds United in their Premier League opener made it apparent that new additions were needed.

David Moyes has already welcomed new additions such as Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Thierno Barry to Everton, but the Blues’ performance against Leeds exposed the holes that remain within their squad.

A striker and full-back are among those positions that have become abundantly clear that Everton should recruit.

With that being said, the free agent market looks to have potential solutions for these issues as Goodison News bring you some of the bargains that Everton could secure to bolster their squad.

Jamie Vardy to provide Moyes with a different option up front

With Beto’s disappointing performance against Leeds, Everton may want to bring in another striker this summer.

Alan Stubbs recently recommended that Everton should sign Vardy, who is a free agent after leaving Leicester City at the end of last season.

With previous comments from Moyes suggesting he could be open to a potential move, bringing in Vardy, who represents a completely different profile of striker to what Everton already have, could be a smart move.

Josh Brownhill to add depth to the Toffees midfield

Brownhill was sensational as he fired Burnley back to the Premier League last season, with the midfielder scoring 18 goals and registering six assists.

With the 29-year-old also having plenty of Premier League experience, bringing a player in their prime to the Hill Dickinson Stadium to provide valuable competition for places would be a shrewd piece of business by TFG.

Brownhill would be a sizeable upgrade on Tim Iroegbunam, who played in the Toffees’ engine room against Leeds with James Garner having to fill in at left-back.

With Iroegbunam being linked with a move away from Everton, bringing in Brownhill would allow Moyes to sign a midfielder he trusts to play in the top flight regularly if needed.

Takehiro Tomiyasu to end Everton’s full-back woes

Tomiyasu and Arsenal reached a mutual agreement to terminate the defender’s contract earlier in the summer, with the 26-year-old Japanese international suffering from injuries.

Despite reports suggesting that Tomiyasu will be out of action until the end of the year, Everton should look to sign the now former Arsenal man.

With Jake O’Brien frequently having to fill in at right-back, bringing in Tomiyasu could see the Irishman be deployed as a centre back, which would be useful in Moyes’ current situation, with Jarrad Branthwaite currently out injured.
