David Moyes puts Everton in ‘difficult situation’ after transfer demand

Everton could potentially have to splash the cash before Deadline Day due to David Moyes.

The Toffees have made seven signings so far this summer, with the most prominent one coming from Manchester City as Jack Grealish made his debut at Elland Road.

Moyes wasn’t happy with James Tarkowski being penalised against Leeds United, as the hosts scored a penalty in the final minutes of the game to secure a 1-0 victory.

The Scottish manager had to play square pegs in round holes in West Yorkshire due to a lack of players, but this may have made it hard for the Blues to sign reinforcements in the coming weeks.

David Moyes being vocal about transfer demands have made negotiations harder

Moyes has made it clear that he wants the Toffees to sign more players before the end of August.

But Michael Ball feels the Scottish manager’s vocal demands may backfire as it could affect the Blues during negotiations for potential targets.

The former English defender feels the apparent desperation from the Merseyside outfit could potentially force The Friedkin Group (TFG) to pay a higher price if they want to get deals over the line.

Ball wrote in the Liverpool Echo on 20 August: “The manager has been very vocal throughout pre-season, being open and honest with fans about what he wants, but that puts the club in a difficult situation when you’re trying to get deals over the line, as you don’t want to appear desperate, as that causes the money to go up and makes negotiations harder.”

Moyes has several transfer priorities at Hill Dickinson Stadium

With Vitalii Mykolenko injured for the game against Leeds, Moyes deployed James Garner at left-back to fill the gap.

Summer signing Adam Aznou was also unavailable due to a fitness issue, and the Scottish manager was forced into taking an experiment in his backline.

Moyes is also without the injured Jarrad Branthwaite, but Tarkowski and Michael Keane arguably held their own for most of the fixture.

Everton may need to address some concerns at right-back, with Jake O’Brien having to play out of position since Moyes’ arrival.

While the Irishman has been solid defensively, the Toffees arguably lose out on some of their attacking threat without a natural full-back.

The Scottish manager is also without Jack Harrison and Jesper Lindstrom, but instead of Carlos Alcaraz, he should look to play Dwight McNeil on the right wing.

Further attacking and defensive options may be needed at Bramley-Moore to build a competitive squad for the 2025/26 season, but it remains to be seen who comes through the door before the end of August.
