Everton could regret not signing ‘powerful’ player after what he just did on international duty
Everton had a very busy transfer window, bringing in eight first team players to the squad.
Tyler Dibling’s £35m move from Southampton was Everton’s most expensive signing, as David Moyes has either prioritised young players, or players with a point to prove.
Jack Grealish’s fantastic start to the season is a perfect example of the latter, whilst Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is playing without fear, now able to consistently play football following his disappointing spell at Chelsea.
However, a certain Everton target has started the season brilliantly, and after scoring his first international goal, Moyes may regret not being able to bring this winger to the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Malick Fofana scores first international goal after electric start to the season
Malick Fofana’s first start for Belgium culminated in him scored his first international goal in his country’s 6-0 win over Liechtenstein.
An article by RTBF analysed the left-winger’s performance and gave him a rating of 7.5/10 following the confident display.
They said: “In his first start for the Red Devils, Malick Fofana put in a solid performance, especially in the first half despite a big missed opportunity. His attacking drive down the left wing set the Liechtenstein team on fire in the final 20 meters.
“More discreet after the break, he emerged late in the match to score his first goal for the national team with a powerful strike (90+1′). This is reassuring in his fitness after coming off injured just four days ago in the Lyon-Marseille clash.”
Fofana was close to a £31.4m move to Merseyside, but the 20-year-old decided to stay at Lyon for the foreseeable future.
At the time Sky Sports journalist Sacha Tavolieri claimed Fofana didn’t find a club to match his ambitions.
For Fofana, this was perhaps the best move, as Lyon have started the season strong by winning all three of their opening games.
- Assisted the winning goal in Lyon’s 1-0 win over RC Lens
- Scored in Lyon’s 3-0 win over FC Metz
- Was taken off injured in the 53rd minute during Lyon’s 1-0 win over Marseille
Despite this seeming to be the right decision on paper, Everton fans will be frustrated as they know that players of Fofana’s quality don’t come around all the time.

Jack Grealish proving to be better than Malick Fofana already
One thing that might ease Everton fans’ frustration would be to sign a left-winger who has already set the season alight.
Grealish’s loan move from Manchester City is on course to be a flying a success, having assisted four goals in his first two Everton starts.
Grealish has registered as many assists in the first three games of this season as Malick Fofana registered assists in whole of the 2024/25 Ligue 1 season.
Whilst the move isn’t permanent yet, Fofana’s left-wing alternative is rediscovering his superstardom at Everton.
