David Moyes may question exit decision after what Harrison Armstrong just did for England

Harrison Armstrong is currently among the most exciting talents on Everton’s books.

Everton loaned Armstrong to Preston North End on transfer deadline day, with the view of allowing him to play more consistent first-team football.

The midfielder spent the second half of last season on loan at Derby in the Championship and impressed for the Rams, playing every minute of their last 10 games.

Armstrong looked to have made an impression on David Moyes on his return, providing two assists when Everton beat Mansfield Town 2-0 in the Carabao Cup.

But ultimately, Everton signed Merlin Rohl from SC Freiburg and the England youth international’s development was thought to be better served on loan.

Harrison Armstrong scores late equaliser for England Under-19s

Armstrong impressed Moyes in training for Everton in the summer, and the midfielder is highly-rated at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

But despite the 18-year-old’s strong performances, the Scot has been, so far, unwilling to give him a real chance in the Premier League.

Armstrong did make an appearance in the league this season – coming off the bench against Brighton – but played just one minute.

The Everton academy product will hope to make his manager regret the decision to loan him out, however, and he made a good start on Saturday.

Featuring for England’s Under-19 side, Armstrong came off the bench to score an equaliser against Spain.

Arriving late in the box, the 18-year-old was on hand to poke home from Rio Ngumoha’s cross, providing the same impact Moyes may expect from new signing Rohl.

Everton should have given Harrison Armstrong a chance

It is easy to see why Everton ultimately chose to loan out Armstrong. The youngster will likely be among the first choices at Preston, and will benefit from the physicality demanded by the Championship.

But part of Moyes may be wondering whether the midfielder could have been given six months to attempt to break into his Premier League team.

Armstrong already proved last season that he can perform in England’s second division, and as the old saying goes – if you are good enough, you are old enough.
