Jack Grealish a clear 10/10, 5/10 could be a flop – Everton’s summer signings rated so far
Everton welcomed nine new signings to the Hill Dickinson Stadium this summer, in what was among the Toffees’ most expensive windows ever.
David Moyes welcomed new arrivals up until the final hours of deadline day, when Everton signed Merlin Rohl from SC Freiburg on loan with an obligation to buy.
The German is expected to compete with fellow signing Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, who arrived from Chelsea in a £28million deal.
Everton signed Tyler Dibling from Southampton in their most expensive outlay of the summer, with the deal for the talented teen worth around £40m.
With nine new players through the door, Goodison News rates each and every summer signing out of 10.

Jack Grealish leads exciting new crop of Everton attackers
Everton signed Jack Grealish from Manchester City on loan in August, in what was undoubtedly one of the most eye-catching pieces of summer business in the Premier League.
The winger has already hit the ground running at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, providing four assists in just three league appearances.
The same can be said of Dewsbury-Hall, who has been in superb form at the head of Moyes’ midfield.
Player | Signed from | Rating |
Tyler Dibling | Southampton | 7 |
Jack Grealish | Manchester City | 10 |
Merlin Rohl | SC Freiburg | 5 |
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall | Chelsea | 9 |
Carlos Alcaraz | Flamengo | 7 |
Thierno Barry | Villarreal | 6 |
Rohl is yet to feature for Everton, and there are question marks surrounding the midfielder’s fitness record – the German having missed much of last season.
There are different questions surrounding Dibling and Thierno Barry, with the fees for both players forming the bulk of the Toffees’ expenditure.
It is fair to say both forwards have been bought with the future in mind, but with that investment comes risk, too.
Everton signed Carlos Alcaraz from Flamengo following a positive loan spell, and the Argentine has continued to look a threat this season.
Defensive reinforcements leave much to be desired for Everton
Everton’s only outfield recruit in defence was that of Adam Aznou, who arrived on a cheap deal from Bayern Munich.
The 19-year-old was injured immediately upon his arrival, and is now close to returning to full fitness.
And the Morocco international will be required, with Vitalii Mykolenko set for another spell on the sidelines after leaving the Ukraine national camp early.
Player | Signed from | Rating |
Adam Aznou | Bayern Munich | 8 |
Mark Travers | Bournemouth | 7 |
Tom King | Wolves | 5 |
Aznou is raw and unproven, but, in isolation, does represent good value for money given his talent and £8m price tag.
Everton’s other signings in the back end of the pitch came between the sticks, with Mark Travers and Tom King arriving to back up Jordan Pickford.
Through no fault of their own, the goalkeepers represent a misjudgement of decision-makers at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, who have left Moyes’ defence dangerously vulnerable to injuries – even despite the time frame afforded when Jarrad Branthwaite suffered a setback.
