Everton news round-up: Pundit stunned by Jack Grealish snub as Ornella Vignola makes history
Everton have had another busy week despite the international break being underway.
Monday saw the transfer window come to an end, with the Toffees signing Merlin Rohl as their last piece of business.
On top of this, multiple players have been in action for their nations, as many look to qualify for the World Cup next summer.
As a result, Goodison News has rounded up all of the latest stories from over the weekend below.

Lee Hendrie ‘gobsmacked’ by Jack Grealish England snub
Jack Grealish has been sensational since he moved to Everton this summer.
After seeing his Manchester City career derail, the winger has moved to the Hill Dickinson Stadium on loan in hopes of reviving his previous form.
So far, he has been a massive success at the Toffees and has already collected four Premier League assists.
Therefore, it was no doubt surprising that Grealish was left out of the England squad for their World Cup qualifiers.
- Grealish currently has 39 caps for England
- The winger will be hoping to get into the squad for the World Cup
- Grealish has been sensational for Everton so far this season
As a result, Lee Hendrie expressed his shock that Grealish wasn’t selected for England in the last set of international fixtures.
“It’s going to change throughout the year for sure,” the former Aston Villa man said.
“This is a good opportunity for some of these players that have been drafted in, or were sort of on the fringes of actually getting into Tuchel’s plans – this is their opportunity to really go and shine.
“I’ll tell you who I’m absolutely gobsmacked that’s not involved, is Grealish!”

Ornella Vignola becomes first Everton star to net hat-trick vs Liverpool since 1931
While the men might not have been in action this weekend, the women began their WSL1 campaign.
Here, Everton battered Liverpool Women, overcoming the Reds 4-1 at Anfield, despite the hosts taking an early lead.
The star of the show was no doubt Ornella Vignola, with the Spaniard netting a hat-trick against Liverpool.
Now, it has been confirmed that Vignola has become the first Everton player to net three times against Liverpool since 1931.
Everton legend Dixie Dean was the last star to do it for the club.

Tomas Soucek ‘said no’ to Everton move
Back on the transfer front, one player that was heavily linked to Everton was Tomas Soucek.
The midfielder has been a star at West Ham for many years and was key in their Europa Conference League victory in 2023.
As a result, David Moyes was looking to reunite with the Czech international this year. However, the Scotsman was unable to complete the transfer.
Tomas Soucek | Under David Moyes |
Appearances | 207 |
Goals | 32 |
Assists | 11 |
Now, it has been revealed that Soucek turned down moves away from West Ham to remain at the East London club.
“There was interest,” explained Soucek. “It was also in the media, it was also felt at the club.
“But West Ham and I said no, because I feel the strength of West Ham and I feel a stable position there that is recognised. So I look forward to further cooperation at West Ham.”
