David Moyes has ‘main priority’ at Everton as Jordan Pickford contract update emerges

Jordan Pickford’s potential new contract has become a big talking point at Everton since the end of the transfer window.

The goalkeeper has long been one of the Toffees’ most important players since joining from Sunderland in 2017.

This has already been proved this season, with Pickford saving a penalty against Brighton in a 2-0 victory.

Now, an update on the talks has emerged as the Premier League looks to restart after the international break.

Bryan King: Everton need to get Jordan Pickford contract done

David Moyes has made multiple changes to his squad since he took over the Toffees in January.

Signings such as Jack Grealish’s addition to Everton have helped add real quality to the team.

However, Moyes has also ensured that the spine of the side stays intact, with stars such as Jarrad Branthwaite signing a new Everton deal in the summer.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, King believes that ensuring the spine of the Toffees is solid will be a “main priority” as he discusses Pickford’s contract talks.

“I think it’s a good move for Everton,” King said.

“It seems that he’s settled into the role massively. He’s come through the criticism that he’s had, and he’s established himself as Everton’s clear number one.

“If Everton can secure that position, and they’re happy with that position, then they need to do it.

“You’ve got to build the spine of the team and make sure it’s solid as a main priority.

“They’ve got a goalkeeper who could sign for the next five years, and they’ve got Branthwaite, who is already signed for the next five years.”

Jordan Pickford contract would be the signing of the season

If Pickford is nailed down to a new long-term deal, it would easily be Everton’s signing of the season.

The goalkeeper is easily one of the best in the Premier League and can easily play at a higher level.

Therefore, if Everton want to re-establish themselves as a European outfit, Pickford is crucial to achieving this.

Hopefully, a deal will be confirmed as soon as possible to ensure the saga does not drag on.
