Isaac Price’s true feelings about leaving Everton revealed after international scenes

Isaac Price has been the topic of conversation for Everton supporters in recent days.

Former Everton academy star Price is now thriving for West Brom in the Championship and made Northern Ireland history in the latest international break.

Price became the youngest player to score 10 goals for his nation in the 3-1 defeat to Germany on Sunday evening.

David Moyes would love to have the Baggies star in his squad right now, but he ultimately left the Toffees after a lack of game time.

Why did Isaac Price leave Everton – how did he feel about exit?

Price left Everton in 2023 to join Standard Liege in Belgium upon the expiry of his contract, and he has not looked back ever since.

Liverpool Echo journalist Joe Thomas has revealed that the 21-year-old wanted to stay and earn a place in the first team.

He believes that he may have stayed at Goodison Park if Frank Lampard had remained as manager, rather than Sean Dyche replacing the ex-Chelsea star, as Lampard loved him.

Writing in a column on 11 September, he said: “One thing I am confident about is, had Lampard lasted longer, Price’s Blues career would have done so too.

“Lampard, a champion of youth, was a huge fan of the Everton academy starlet, and I very much doubt his contract would have dwindled towards expiry without a real fight if the former England midfielder had lasted longer.

“Price was open to staying with the club as he entered the final months of his deal, but what he needed was a show of faith from those above him.

“Then, 19 and requiring a stage on which to blossom, what he wanted was to feel wanted at Everton. Under Lampard, who introduced him in the Goodison hammering at Brighton the following January (the night his future did become irretrievable), that was no issue.

“Under Sean Dyche, it was.

“That is not necessarily the fault of Dyche. He arrived at a club in chaos, one that had broken down on and off the pitch and was hurtling towards a relegation fight that would prove even more perilous than the season before.”

Could Isaac Price one day return to Everton?

A return to the Blues would not be a surprise if he keeps thriving in the second tier for West Brom.

The Toffees have already been looking at The Hawthorns, with their interest in winger Tom Fellows constantly noted before he moved to Southampton.

If Price continues to impress, the Hill Dickinson Stadium outfit could bring him back if they need another creative midfield option.

Whether they would be interested remains to be seen, but it is an intriguing option, a potential comeback after not initially making the cut.

Unfortunate circumstances hampered Price in his first stint at the club, including Lampard’s sacking, Dyche’s situation, fighting relegation and points deductions.

So, he may fancy another chance to prove himself on Merseyside, after he was not really given an opportunity the first time around.

Alternatively, he may get a chance to move on to greater things.
