Everton to strike Idrissa Gueye agreement in ‘typical David Moyes fashion’
Idrissa Gueye has continued to be one of Everton’s most reliable players since he returned to the Toffees in 2022.
The midfielder has made over 200 appearances at the Merseyside club across his two spells, successfully keeping the side in the Premier League.
As a result of his form last season, the midfielder won both the Player of the Season and Players’ Player of the Season at the Toffees, before Gueye was awarded a new contract at Everton.
With the 35-year-old still an important cog in David Moyes’ system, Gueye continues to perform well at Everton.

This article includes exclusive comment from former Everton scout Bryan King.
Bryan King: David Moyes to trigger Idrissa Gueye’s contract extension
One issue with the 35-year-old’s contract is that it only lasts for one year.
However, Everton do possess an option to extend Gueye’s deal for a further year.
Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Bryan King believes Moyes will quickly trigger this before running the risk of him leaving for free in the summer.
- Gueye moved back to Everton from PSG in 2022
- The midfielder has continued to be a top player under Moyes
- So far this season, Gueye has started in everyone of Everton’s Premier League matches
“I’d do it,” King said. “He’s very seldom let them down in the last few years.
“This is typical Moyes. He likes stability, and he likes to get players in place knowing that he’s not then got to start talking to them in the final months of their contracts.
“He’ll want to get these things out of the way; he won’t want to run the risk of players potentially leaving for free.
“That’s how he likes to work, and rightly so, it’s a very sensible way to work.”
Everton have multiple players out of contract in 2026
Gueye isn’t the only player whose contract is set to expire in the summer.
As it stands, the Toffees are at risk of losing several players on free transfers in less than a year.
James Tarkowski and James Garner are the two biggest names who are out on contract at Everton next summer.
Michael Keane, Seamus Coleman and Vitalii Mykolenko are also on the list.
Therefore, if Moyes wants to avoid this risk with the contracts, he will have to offer multiple new deals to players sooner rather than later.
