Romelu Lukaku, super Kevin Campbell – Everton’s top Premier League scorers vs Liverpool

Everton’s trip to take on Liverpool on Saturday will mark the 67th Merseyside derby since the Premier League’s inception in 1992.

David Moyes has never beaten Liverpool at Anfield, and will hope the occasion can be a memorable one for the Toffees.

Everton have enjoyed some superb moments at Anfield, but the stadium has always been an extremely difficult place for the Blues to visit.

Ahead of Saturday’s game, Goodison News takes a look at some of Everton’s top scorers against Liverpool in the Premier League era.

Andrey Kanchelskis – 3 appearances, 3 goals

Few Everton players can boast a one-goal-per-game record in Merseyside derbies, and no one other than Andrey Kanchelskis can say they did it with three appearances.

The midfielder is also the only Toffee to score a brace at Anfield in the Premier League era, and it came in 1995.

The first saw him thump home his first-ever Everton goal with a header at the Kop End, before the Russian powered home to double the lead at the same end to complete a famous victory for the Toffees.

Kevin Campbell – 8 appearances, 3 goals

The late, great Kevin Campbell featured just once in a Blues win in the Merseyside derby.

It was his winner that day in 1999 that remains the last time Everton fans have seen their team win live at Anfield.

The only time since, when Carlo Ancelotti’s side emerged victorious in 2021, was played behind closed doors.

Campbell’s smart finish would have been among the first memories sparked for many Evertonians when news emerged of the former striker’s tragic passing in 2024.

Romelu Lukaku – 8 appearances, 3 goals

Romelu Lukaku holds the rarely held honour of having scored a brace against Liverpool for Everton.

The two goals came in one of the most entertaining Merseyside derbies of the Premier League era, in which Liverpool led twice before Lukaku’s late header was cancelled out by Daniel Sturridge.

Goodison Park stood up and applauded both teams after the referee had ended proceedings at 3-3, after what had been a game that went back and forth throughout.

Lukaku would go on to score 15 goals in the 2013/14 Premier League season for Everton.

Duncan Ferguson – 16 appearances, 4 goals

Duncan Ferguson was known for many things, with some of them representing the less attractive side of the game.

But he always turned up in the Merseyside derby. Incredibly, his first ever goal for Everton would come against Liverpool at Goodison Park.

The big striker rose highest to head home from a corner before later registering an assist as the Toffees beat the Reds in 1994.

Tim Cahill – 12 appearances, 5 goals

Everton and Australia icon Tim Cahill holds the honour of being the Toffees’ top scorer against Liverpool in the Premier League.

The forward appeared in 12 games against the Reds from 2004 to 2011, with three of his five goals coming at Anfield.

Cahill would be on the winning side in just three Merseyside derbies, but played a part in one of the most iconic under Moyes.

Everton’s number 17 would score the opener at Goodison Park in 2006, latching on to Lee Carsley’s flick on to finish past Pepe Reina and send the home fans into raptures.

An Andy Johnson brace would put the seal on a terrific day for Moyes and Everton.
