Everton need Jack Grealish career-first at Anfield to pull off upset vs Liverpool
Everton will be hoping to pull off the unthinkable this weekend by beating Liverpool at Anfield for the first time since 2021.
David Moyes has never won at Anfield, and the Carlo Ancelotti-led victory behind closed doors four years ago was the first since 1999.
The Toffees look a team reborn this season, however, and the Scot will be hoping to finally put his dismal record at the stadium to an end.
Jack Grealish was named Premier League Player of the Month for August, amid what has been a terrific start at the Hill Dickinson Stadium for the winger.
As well as providing four assists in his four Premier League appearances, Grealish has been praised for his defensive efforts since arriving on Merseyside.

Jack Grealish has a terrible record at Anfield
Liverpool are Grealish’s favourite team to play against, with the winger enjoying seven direct goal contributions in seven games against the Reds.
One iconic night at Villa Park in 2020 saw the England international score two goals and provide seven assists in a surreal 7-2 win for Aston Villa.
But Grealish’s experiences at Anfield have been vastly different to the times when he has faced Liverpool at Villa Park, or the Etihad Stadium.
As per Sofascore, the winger has played away against Liverpool on four occasions and has ended up on the losing side three times, with the other match ending level.
Two of those visits were with Villa and two with Manchester City, with Grealish failing to provide a single goal or assist.
Everton will have to defy records to win at Anfield
According to the Sofascore rating system, Grealish currently sits third behind Erling Haaland and Moises Caicedo in the race for Premier League Player of the Season, with an average rating of 7.83.
The winger has been an attacking force for Everton this season, and there should be space available for him on Saturday.
Jack Grealish | Premier League 2025/26 |
Sofascore rating | 7.83 |
Assists | 4 |
Big chances created | 3 |
Key passes (per 90) | 2.8 |
Successful dribbles (per 90) | 2.0 |
Jeremie Frimpong is expected to be at right-back for Liverpool, and the defender’s nature to bomb on should allow opportunities for Grealish to get in behind.
With both the 30-year-old and his manager, Moyes, holding terrible records at Anfield, Saturday will serve as a real chance to put old enemies to bed.
