Everton’s stunning side that beat Liverpool at Anfield in 2021 – Where are they now?
Everton’s 2-0 victory at Anfield is often a forgotten footnote in Premier League history, given it happened during the Covid campaign.
Goals from Richarlison and Gylfi Sigurdsson ended 22 years without a win at Anfield in February 2021 in a thrilling game.
The result helped the Toffees achieve a top-half finish that season, in what proved to be Carlo Ancelotti’s last at the Merseyside club.
Now, with Everton set to travel to Liverpool once again on Saturday, Goodison News has looked back at where the starting XI from this tie is now.

Jordan Pickford
A player no Everton fans will need an introduction to, Jordan Pickford remains a key player for the Toffees.
The goalkeeper managed to keep an important clean sheet at Anfield during the tie, a feat he will be looking to repeat on Saturday.
This comes amid news that Pickford is in talks to sign another Everton contract, which could see him stay at the Toffees for even longer.

Seamus Coleman
Another player still at the Toffees, Seamus Coleman is now a fringe player for Everton as he enters the twilight of his career.
The 36-year-old had previously been one of the Merseyside club’s most influential players, and this was no doubt on show during their last win over the Reds at Anfield.
Now, into the last year of his contract at Everton, it is currently unknown if Coleman will remain a Toffees player after this season.

Mason Holgate
Mason Holgate once looked to be a highly promising centre-back in his early days at Everton.
The Jamaican international made his breakthrough in the 2016/17 campaign and remained a regular in the squad until 2022.
However, after failing to impress at Sheffield United or West Brom, the centre-back was released in 2025.
Now, Holgate finds himself at Al-Gharafa SC, where he has been since July.
Michael Keane
The final player still at Everton, Michael Keane continues to remain in the Toffees backline to this day.
The centre-back has now made over 200 appearances for the Merseyside club since signing in 2017.
Recently, Keane has been magnificent for Everton, proving that David Moyes has done well to keep hold of the defender.

Ben Godfrey
Ben Godfrey’s spell at Everton was fairly short after moving to the Toffees in 2020.
The defender went on to make just under 100 appearances for the Merseyside club before moving to Atalanta in 2024.
As it stands, the centre-back has been loaned out by the Italian side, and can be found at Sheffield United.
Lucas Digne
Lucas Digne’s departure from Everton was no doubt controversial. The full-back had proved to be a highly important player at the Toffees for years.
However, in January 2022, he pushed for a move away, eventually joining Aston Villa that same month.
The French international remains at the Birmingham outfit, with Digne seeing further success in the Premier League since his move.

Abdoulaye Doucoure
Into the midfield, and Abdoulaye Doucoure remained an important player for Everton until the summer.
Here, the 32-year-old chose to depart the Toffees at the end of his contract, ending his five-year stay at the Merseyside club.
Now, has Doucoure played for Saudi side Neom since August.
Tom Davies
Tom Davies looked to be a highly promising player at Everton when he came through the academy.
The midfielder quickly became a regular at Goodison Park and nearly made 200 appearances before he departed in 2023 when his contract expired.
Since then, the 27-year-old has been at Sheffield United as he looks to get promoted back to the Premier League.

Andre Gomes
Completing the midfield three is Andre Gomes, whose importance at Everton quickly declined after the 2020/21 campaign.
The 32-year-old was subsequently loaned out to Lille in the 2022/23 season before making a permanent move to the French side in 2024.
Since then, he has remained at Lille, becoming an important player.
James Rodriguez
James Rodriguez was no doubt Everton’s biggest signing during the 2020/21 campaign, reuniting with Ancelotti.
However, his time at Goodison Park was brief, and he would depart the following year for Al-Rayyan.
Since then, the Colombian international has played for Olympiacos, Sao Paulo, Rayo Vallecano and now finds himself at Mexican side Leon.

Richarlison
The final man in the starting XI, Richarlison was a key player at Everton for years, and netted the opening goal against Liverpool in the fixture.
The Brazilian international went on to score 53 times for the Toffees in 152 appearances before moving to Tottenham in 2022.
Here, the attacker has often struggled for goals but has helped Spurs end their trophy drought with their Europa League victory in 2025.
