Andy Gray hits out over ‘staggering’ incident in Everton loss vs Liverpool, Richard Keys agrees

Everton’s 2-1 loss to Liverpool on Saturday was pretty much without the controversy typically associated with the Merseyside derby.

Jack Grealish almost inspired Everton to a comeback, but the Reds’ first-half goals were enough to secure victory for the hosts.

Everton boss Moyes would have been furious about a foul in the build-up to Ryan Gravenberch’s opening goal, but he will be proud of his team’s display.

Moyes has previously spoken positively about Darren England, but the referee may be in his bad books after one incident.

Andy Gray stunned by Liverpool vs Everton controversy

Ally McCoist was shocked by the decision to book Everton star Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, after he had taken a free-kick too early.

Former Blues star and beIN SPORTS pundit Andy Gray has also hit out over the incident, and co-host Richard Keys was in full agreement.

Speaking on the channel on 20 September, Gray said: “It’s staggering. It didn’t impact the game, but that was really poor. The referee just wasn’t very good.”

Keys replied, saying: “Yeah I don’t get that, when referees penalise teams for taking free-kicks quickly when it’s supposed to be their advantage.”

David Moyes furious with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall decision

The decision from Darren England to book Dewsbury-Hall could have significant consequences for the attacking midfielder and Moyes.

It was the former Chelsea man’s fourth booking in four matches, and if he receives another one, then he will be suspended for one match, which would be a huge blow.

On this occasion, though, he cannot be blamed, as it was a ludicrous decision from England to award a card for the Blues ace.

Especially when he did not book Conor Bradley for fouling Grealish multiple times, there needs to be consistency from referees, and England had a nightmare this time.

Moyes has praised him in the past, but he will be livid after his showing against the Reds, as he should not have booked Dewsbury-Hall for such a trivial matter.

The Blues have often been aggrieved by decisions in derbies against their local rivals, and this was no different, as it was not a yellow, especially when there were worse incidents that went unpunished.
