James Garner stuns with ‘fabulous’ moment despite Everton loss vs Wolves

Everton’s 2-0 defeat to Wolves on Tuesday saw few players impress at Molineux.

The result means that the Toffees have crashed out of the Carabao Cup in the third round, despite being favourites for the tie.

Multiple players were awful for Everton, including Dwight McNeil, whose performance left much to be desired.

However, James Garner was one of the few highlights for Everton, and had plenty of impressive moments despite the defeat.

David Edwards wowed by James Garner free-kick vs Wolves

Garner has already had a strong start of the season for Everton.

The midfielder has now established himself as a regular in the lineup and has put in numerous great displays throughout the early stages of the campaign.

On Tuesday, Garner was one of the few Everton players who maintained his place in the starting XI for Wolves after the defeat to Liverpool and did not disappoint.

One highlight came in the second half when the Toffees were chasing an equaliser.

Standing over a free-kick, the midfielder smashed his effort onto the bar, with Wolves goalkeeper Sam Johnstone rooted.

Speaking on Sky Sports on 23 September, David Edwards was impressed by the effort.

He said: “This just looked like it was destined for the top corner, Sam Johnstone was rooted.

“Fabulous hit, so much pace and dip on it; crashes against the woodwork. Fabulous attempt from Garner.”

James Garner outsider for the England 2026 World Cup squad

James Garner has already been tipped for an England call-up after his recent performances, and surely he will get the nod in the next international break.

The midfielder rarely puts a foot wrong, even when he is forced to play as a full-back.

If Garner can keep this up over the course of the season, there is no reason why he can’t be in the squad for the World Cup in the summer.

Hopefully, the midfielder maintains his form to help the Three Lions finally bring the trophy home.
