David Moyes clearly delusional after what he said about Everton vs Wolves

Everton were knocked out of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday in an awful 2-0 defeat to Wolves.

It was a shocking display from the Toffees, as they lost to the side at the bottom of the Premier League and without a point.

This was despite Everton already beating Wolves this season at Molineux, with the Merseyside club unable to repeat this success.

Plenty of things went wrong in the match, with Dwight McNeil being particularly poor against Wolves.

However, David Moyes will take a fair chunk of the criticism for his decisions on Tuesday.

David Moyes: Wolves weren’t better than Everton

Going into the match, Moyes made the decision to make multiple changes to his Everton lineup at Molineux.

This clearly backfired as the hosts took the lead in the first half, with the Scotsman forced to make multiple changes at half-time to try and turn the tide of the match.

However, looking back on the first period, Moyes believes that the Toffees deserved to go into the break level.

He told BBC Sport on 23 September: “It was a 0-0 game in the first half, we gave away a diabolical goal. Wolves were not better than us. They were for the first 10 minutes or so but the game was 0-0. We gave away a terrible first goal which altered things.

“We probably dominated most of the second half but couldn’t find a way of getting a goal.

“The players introduced [in the second half] made a huge difference. We want everyone to play at that level. We didn’t play at that level in the first half, but I don’t think Wolves did either. I didn’t think they were necessarily better at that time.”

Simply put, this is a terrible and worrying take from Moyes. Everton created little throughout the match, but particularly in the first half.

Michael Keane’s header was perhaps the only notable chance, whereas Wolves, despite being poor, were creating and scored a solid goal.

At the end of the day, if you fail to make good opportunities and be adventurous, you deserve to be behind.

Moyes’ comments are simply delusional and potentially worrying given how bad Everton were in the first half.

Wolves defeat was David Moyes’ biggest Everton mistake since returning

While Moyes has made multiple mistakes since returning to the Merseyside club, his decisions in the defeat to Wolves was the biggest by far.

Why the manager decided to rotate when they don’t play another game until Monday was baffling.

The Carabao Cup was a winnable competition for the Toffees, with teams such as Manchester United, Aston Villa and West Ham all out.

Now, the FA Cup is Everton’s only realistic chance of ending their 30-year trophy drought this season.
