Paul Merson reveals David Moyes ‘shock’ as he makes Everton vs West Ham prediction

Everton boss David Moyes will hope to secure victory against his former club, West Ham, on Monday evening.

Everton were eliminated from the Carabao Cup against Wolves last time out, after being beaten by Liverpool and drawing with Aston Villa.

Moyes could get Graham Potter sacked if the result goes the hosts’ way, and get revenge on the Hammers for letting him leave in 2024.

The Blues risk letting a great start to the season get away from them, and they must return to winning ways at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on 29 September.

Paul Merson chimes in on David Moyes and Everton criticism

Moyes has come in for a lot of criticism after his Everton selection decisions against the Old Gold, where he made seven changes.

Paul Merson revealed that he was taken aback by the decision to change so much, especially given the Blues near 30-year trophy drought.

In his weekly predictions column for Sportskeeda on 25 September, he said: “I was shocked by David Moyes’ team selection for the loss against Wolves.

“He ended up bringing on Iliman Ndiaye, Jack Grealish, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Beto and Vitalii Mykolenko from the bench.

“If you want to rest them, leave them out of the squad. Now they are in a situation where these players aren’t 100 per cent fresh for the weekend.”

The ex-Arsenal star still believes that the Blues will beat the Hammers, though, as he predicted a 2-0 victory for the hosts, saying: “Fortunately for Everton, West Ham have been really poor.

“That win over Forest papered over the cracks. Graham Potter’s side were lucky, this is the perfect fixture for Everton to put the disappointment of losing in the cup behind them.”

David Moyes can exact revenge over West Ham exit

Moyes will be confident that his Blues side can beat his former employers, who let him go, despite the fact that he won the UEFA Europa Conference League for them.

That has proved to be an utter failure, as the Irons have struggled to find the right manager to replace the Scotsman, and the solidity that he brought to their club.

Moyes now has the chance to exact the perfect revenge, and set the London Stadium outfit back even further, if Potter cannot cling onto his job, if the Toffees win.

It is a crucial match for the ex-Chelsea man, but it may even more crucial for Moyes, because his side need to return to the winning formula that they had found before the international break took away their momentum.
