Everton already have upper hand vs West Ham amid terrible Nuno Espirito Santo reveal
Everton will have to contend with the infamous ‘new manager bounce’ when they play West Ham on Monday.
West Ham sacked Graham Potter on Saturday, with Nuno Espirito Santo quickly named as the Englishman’s successor.
The Portuguese manager had looked securely in place at Nottingham Forest in pre-season, but a reported fall-out behind the scenes led to owner Evangelos Marinakis hiring another former Tottenham boss in Ange Postecoglou.
Moyes piled on the praise for Santo last season, with Forest securing their highest Premier League finish since 1995.
But the Scot will now hope to hand the West Ham manager a loss in his first game in charge.

Nuno Espirito Santo has torrid recent record vs Everton
Moyes has never beaten Potter in a competitive match, despite the pair meeting on eight separate occasions.
The Premier League veteran has had slightly more success against Nuno, however, having won four of the seven games the two have overseen.
The first of which, interestingly, came in 2015, when a Nuno-led Valencia beat Moyes’ Real Sociedad 2-0 in La Liga.
The eighth will come in the Premier League on Monday, but the psychological advantage lies more with Everton, rather than the Scot himself.
Nuno Espirito Santo vs Everton | Season |
Nottingham Forest 0-1 Everton | 2024/25 |
Everton 0-2 Nottingham Forest | 2024/25 |
Everton 2-0 Nottingham Forest | 2023/24 |
Everton 1-0 Wolves | 2020/21 |
Wolves 1-2 Everton | 2020/21 |
Nuno has lost four of his last five matches against the Toffees, with two of those losses coming whilst the former Benfica manager was at Wolves.
So disastrous was the 51-year-old’s time at Tottenham, he never actually took on Everton whilst in charge at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Everton to contend with new manager bounce
The dreaded ‘new manager bounce’ always seems to have its say in each and every Premier League season.
The term refers to the period in which a team, no matter how dismal the run which saw the previous manager sacked, suddenly look renewed upon the arrival of a new boss.
Naturally, the phenomenon can be attributed to the fact that players will want to impress their new manager, in the hopes of catching his eye and securing a place in the starting line-up.
Few better examples can be offered than Sean Dyche’s first game in charge of Everton, when his relegation-threatened side inexplicably beat Premier League leaders Arsenal at Goodison Park.
But it will be the Toffees on the wrong side on this occasion, with Moyes hoping to beat the bounce.
