Danny Murphy blown away with what Idrissa Gueye did in Everton vs West Ham – ‘Terrific’
Everton’s winless run continued as they drew 1-1 with West Ham on Monday.
Michael Keane opened the scoreline early in the first half with a bullet header.
However, West Ham played far better in the second half and equalised through Jarrod Bowen.
While players like Beto have been criticised for their display at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, many of Everton’s players performed well against West Ham.
One such star was Idrissa Gueye, with Danny Murphy impressed.

Danny Murphy: Idrissa Gueye’s work rate is terrific
Gueye has been a crucial player for Everton in recent seasons.
The midfielder, now into his second spell at the Toffees has rarely put a foot wrong and both the Players’ Player and Everton Player of the Year last season.
Now, with speculation ongoing about Gueye’s Everton contract, the 36-year-old has put in another wonderful performance against West Ham.
- Gueye signed a new contract at Everton in the summer
- However, this was only for a year, with it currently set to expire next summer
- Everton do have an option for an additional year
Speaking on talkSPORT, Murphy was blown away with Gueye’s work rate, highlighting a moment in the first half when he took the ball off Crysencio Summerville.
He said: “He is so good at that. Summerville was flying past people again, and he just continued to stick with him and bide his time to challenge.
“That takes some pace as well. I love that.
“When you have such a creative player who is so good going forward, but is so willing to do the work going back, tremendous player, and rightly applauded by the Evertonians.”

How good was Gueye against West Ham?
According to Sofascore on 29 September, the midfielder put in a very solid display.
Gueye’s passing accuracy was exceptional, with the Everton star only misplacing three throughout the night.

If it wasn’t clear how important the midfielder is to Moyes’ plans, it is now, with Gueye clearly still a top player.
Hopefully, Moyes is able to sort out a contract extension sooner rather than later to ensure that Gueye remains at Everton for the foreseeable future.
If not, plans need to be in place on how to replace a player who is clearly extremely important to the Scotsman’s system.
