Everton must stop Callum Wilson after new reveal ahead of West Ham showdown

Everton return to the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Monday evening for a Premier League clash against West Ham United.

The Toffees remain unbeaten at their new home and will look to bounce back after Everton’s disappointing loss against Wolves in the Carabao Cup.

David Moyes will come up against his former side in West Ham, after managing them on two occasions and winning the Europa Conference League during his second period in charge.

It will also be a big night for the Hammers as Nuno Espirito Santo takes charge of his first game for the Irons, and the Portuguese national has the right man to upset the Everton apple cart.

Callum Wilson seeks to continue fine form against Everton

The Everton defence has been firm at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, and they have kept clean sheets in all three of their opening home games.

But they face the prospect of matching up with Wilson, a man whose record favours playing against the Toffees, despite his wretched few years with injuries.

The 33-year-old has scored eight goals in his last seven Premier League matches against Everton.

A more concerning fact is that every time he has scored against the Blues, he has gone on to claim a brace, most recently with Newcastle.

The last time he scored against Everton was during a humiliation at Goodison Park as Newcastle thrashed the Toffees 4-1.

In recent years, he has missed out on the opportunity to play against Everton due to injury, but he did feature for the final 20 minutes on the final day of the 2024-25 Premier League season, when David Moyes’ side clutched a 1-0 victory.

Michael Keane and James Tarkowski hold the key to stop Callum Wilson

In the absence of Jarrad Branthwaite, James Tarkowski and Michael Keane have formed a solid partnership in defence.

The pair played together at Burnley from 2015 to 2017, and rejoined each other when Tarkowski moved to Everton in 2022.

Challenges lost in the Premier League 2025-26

Everton and West Ham rank in the top three for the fewest challenges lost in the Premier League this season.

But what sets the Toffees apart from tonight’s opponents is that their tackle success rate comes in at 10 per cent higher than the Hammers’.

Keane and Tarkowski were the starting centre-backs during Everton’s embarrassing 4-1 defeat against Newcastle, but tonight should bring its positives for the pair as they head into tonight’s clash with their heads held high after multiple firm performances.

It seems strange to pick out Wilson, but he will need to be closely watched, despite rarely being seen in recent years.
