Jack Grealish frustrating habit pinpointed after what he did in Everton vs West Ham
Jack Grealish has been brilliant since his loan move to Everton from Manchester City.
Grealish earned the Premier League Player of the Month award for his performances in August, which saw the twinkle-toed winger rack up four assists.
Everton drew 1-1 with West Ham on Monday evening, sparking some discussion around the Manchester City loanee and whether he could be adding more to the side.
Grealish has always been a creative player, prioritising finding a teammate whenever he enters the final third, potentially to his and his team’s detriment.

Grealish is yet to score for Everton
For all of his creative prowess on display, so far as a Toffee, people are clambering for Grealish to take it upon himself to find the back of the net for Everton.
TalkSPORT and Sky Sports’ Kevin Hatchard said this about how Grealish can do more for David Moyes: “Grealish has been great for #efc this season, but all too often he’s being selfless and trying to lay the ball off to the edge of the box.
“Feel like there are times when he can get the ball out of his feet and hit it. Yes, he’s racking up the assists, but he can mix it up too.”
Grealish didn’t take a single shot in the 90 minutes he played against West Ham.
Across his five league starts, Grealish has averaged 1.2 shots per game and 0.3 on target, having only pulled the trigger from outside the box once in the Premier League.
With Everton’s struggling strikers, their number 18 may be turned to as a source of consistent goals, but is that who Grealish is now?
Grealish’s confidence in front of goal has been on the decline
Throughout the winger’s career, there has been a steady decline in the number of shots he takes, with his time at Aston Villa being where he was most likely to let fly.
Season | Shots per 90 (All competitions) |
2020/21 (Last year at Villa) | 2.1 |
2021/22 (First year at City) | 2.1 |
24/25 (Last year at City) | 1.6 |
So far at Everton, Grealish has continued this trend, but he is still contributing enormously despite the low shot volume.
The left side of Moyes’ team is the first place the Blues look to get the ball to, as they know the former £100 million man has the keys to unlock any defence.
They will look even more to Grealish in their next game, with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall suspended after picking up a yellow card against West Ham.
Everton will host unbeaten Crystal Palace this weekend, in the next opportunity for Grealish to end his drought.
