‘Ridiculous’ – Henry Winter rages over Dewsbury-Hall scenes in Everton draw vs West Ham
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall picked up his fifth yellow card of the season as Everton drew 1-1 with West Ham at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Monday night.
Dewsbury-Hall arrived from Chelsea in the summer, looking to re-establish himself in the Premier League after a stuttering stint in West London.
Before the transfer window even closed, Dewsbury-Hall showed he’d settled in with a masterclass against Wolves, in which he registered a goal and an assist at Molineux on 30 August.
Arriving alongside Jack Grealish in the summer, the pair have come up big for Everton, providing one goal and five assists in six games between them.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s out of luck with yet another yellow card
Dewsbury-Hall became the first player in the Premier League to accumulate five yellow cards this season on Monday night.
He’s had three bookings for fouls against Brighton, Wolves, and Villa.

His next two were dissent for taking a quick free-kick against Liverpool and then on Monday night, for a fair tackle on West Ham’s Kyle Walker-Peters in the 90th minute.
Dewsbury-Hall’s suspension will be a big miss for Everton, with the Chelsea loanee starting in every Premier League game this season.

Everton welcome an in-form Crystal Palace on Sunday, but without Dewsbury-Hall, it’ll be interesting to see who David Moyes picks as his replacement
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall goes ‘full Basil Fawlty’ but yellow card was ‘a joke’
Henry Winter, one of the most respected journalists covering football, usually has the words to describe everything.
He cannot fathom why Dewsbury-Hall was booked against West Ham on Monday for what seemed like a good tackle on Walker-Peters.
That, on top of the quick free-kick against Liverpool, have led to him being banned and Winter is outraged by the injustice the Everton loan star is having to endure.
Writing on X, Winter said: “Dewsbury-Hall’s first three bookings of the season were for fouls against Brighton, Wolves and Villa. His next two were, frankly, a joke: dissent for taking a quick free-kick against Liverpool (when the advantage should be for the team fouled against) and, last night, for a fair tackle on West Ham’s Kyle Walker-Peters in the 90th minute. Dewsbury-Hall’s offence was listed as a foul.
“His reaction, and that of Jack Grealish closeby, spoke of experienced professionals who knew it was a ridiculous decision to punish a fair challenge with a free-kick and booking and who instantly expressed their frustration.
“Dewsbury-Hall then went full Basil Fawlty, beating the ground. His frustration was understandable: he was trying to launch an attack, trying to win the game, and instead found the referee awarding the opposition a free-kick in a dangerous position for a fair challenge – it’s still a contact game – and also found himself banned for an important match. If the booking had been for dissent there could have been some logic but it was listed as for the foul.
Who will David Moyes start with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall suspended?
Without Dewsbury-Hall, Moyes has a decision on his hands, with the English midfielder starting all six league games this season.
Everton do not have a lot of depth going forward, but with the signing of Tyler Dibling, he looks set to come in as the replacement.
Dibling has featured four times for Everton this season, starting once against Wolves in the Carabao Cup.
The young forward is yet to make an impact for Moyes and will hope that he can take his chance against Palace at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Sunday.
