‘Shocker’ – Everton commentator stunned by Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall decision vs West Ham

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall was at the centre of a game-changing moment in Everton’s 1-1 draw with West Ham.

Signed from Chelsea in the summer, Dewsbury-Hall has impressed so far this season in David Moyes‘ midfield and featured heavily in Monday night’s game.

It was Michael Keane who scored Everton’s goal, before Jarrod Bowen cancelled it out in the second half as the sides shared the points.

Despite not getting on the scoresheet, Dewsbury-Hall‘s fingerprints were all over proceedings, and yet again, he found himself involved in a controversial decision.

Commentator calls out the referee’s performance

With the game tied, the Toffees searched for a late winner but felt their efforts were stifled by not the Hammers’ defence, but by the referee.

Dewsbury-Hall was shown a yellow card for his challenge on Kyle Walker-Peters when the ball fell loose on the edge of the penalty area.

Everton commentator, Phil Munns, took to X to express his disdain at the decision. He wrote: “Wow—shocker of a decision that. The booking and suspension are frustrating enough, but look at the clock and where the ball is won! Not saying it’s going in, but you get the drift.”

The card was the midfielder’s fourth in the Premier League this season, a tally that has earned him a suspension, ruling him out for Everton’s clash with Crystal Palace.

This isn’t the first time this season that Dewsbury-Hall has been involved in an eyebrow-raising yellow card.

His bizarre yellow card at Anfield, last weekend, for taking a free-kick too quickly put him on the tightrope of potential suspension, but he will feel hard done by after Monday’s booking.

David Moyes will have to do without his preferred midfielder as the Scottish manager looks to get back to winning ways, but he has options to cope with the loss.

David Moyes could rejig the forward line to cover for Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s absence

The Blues quietly built a solid amount of depth in the forward areas over the summer, making the loss of the attacking midfielder slightly less detrimental.

James Garner and Idrissa Gana Gueye are nailed-on starters in the midfield at this current time, but the one who sits just in front will need to be revised for Sunday’s game.

Moyes could opt for Jack Grealish in a more central position, allowing last year’s standout performer, Iliman Ndiaye, to shift to the left-hand side, with Tyler Dibling potentially handed his first start on the right.

Alternatively, it may just be a straight swap for Charlie Alcarex, who has operated in that position before for the Toffees, keeping Ndiaye and Grealish out wide to avoid too much moving around.

Tim Iroegbunum has been fairly impressive whenever he has played, and Moyes has the option to create a more defensively diligent midfield if he chooses the youngster to partner Garner and Guey.

Crystal Palace will be tough to beat, and it’s only been made harder after that ‘shocker’ of a decision.
