‘We are disappointed’ – Everton fan group confirms display postponement
Everton fan group The 1878s have been at the core of the club’s survival bids in recent years.
The 1878s have a working relationship with Everton and coordinate matchday displays in an attempt to boost the home atmosphere.
The Toffees have played four matches at the Hill Dickinson Stadium since leaving Goodison Park and are unbeaten in all of those matches.
As Everton’s long-term home was passed to the Women‘s team, the 1878s had planned to continue their displays at their new ground.

1878s postpone display following financial issues
The supporter group are known for their large collection of flags that used to decorate the stands at Goodison Park.
They had planned to conduct a display at Everton‘s upcoming home match against Tottenham Hotspur on 26 October.
But the group announced they were not satisfied with the display they had planned, due to their flags not being a sufficient size to cover the South Stand – the stand where they had the display planned.
The reason for this was insufficient funds, but the group are awaiting signed memorabilia from the club, with the hope they can raffle it off to create the necessary funds.

Everton should help 1878s with their funding issues
The 1878s stood tall during a time when Everton were the embarrassment of the Premier League.
When results were poor and board mismanagement was at the fore, the group ensured Goodison Park remained a fortress through colourful and vibrant displays.
Now that Everton have moved to the Hill Dickinson Stadium, it is crucial for them to take pieces of Goodison with them to ensure the fan identity and culture within the club remains strong.
The 1878s created wonderful atmospheres at the Grand Old Lady, and the onus should be on Everton to help with their issues so the connection between the club and supporters remains strong.
Football grounds can become iconic with their grand displays of flags and banners, and should Everton want to make the Hill Dickinson Stadium a place to leave supporters in awe, then the 1878s will help create that.
