10 most expensive Everton players of all time: From £28.5m Barcelona flop to Richarlison
Everton have recorded several record transfers in their history.
While some have been huge successes, others have gone on to be failures at the Merseyside club.
However, this has not stopped them from splashing the cash, with Everton making multiple expensive additions this summer to improve their squad.
Now, Goodison News has looked back on the Toffees’ 10 most expensive signings in their history, with add-ons included in the rankings.

10 – Romelu Lukaku – £28m from Chelsea
Romelu Lukaku has been one of Everton’s most successful signings in their history.
The striker joined from Chelsea in 2014 for £28million after a highly successful loan spell at Goodison Park.
During his time at the Toffees, he scored 87 times in 166 appearances, winning numerous individual awards for his success.
As a result, Manchester United signed the striker in 2017, ending his stay at the Merseyside club.
9 – Yerry Mina – £28.5m from Barcelona
On the opposite end of the success chart is Yerry Mina, who, according to Sky Sports News on 10 August 2018, signed for Everton for £28.5m.
The centre-back joined from Barcelona with plenty of promise, but never lived up to this hype.
The defender only made 99 appearances for the Toffees despite his five-year stay at Goodison Park, with Mina putting in numerous poor Everton performances.
As a result, the centre-half was eventually released in 2023, and he now plays for Cagliari in Italy.
8 – Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall – £29m from Chelsea
One of the most recent signings on this list, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall signed for Everton for £29m in the summer and has gone on to be a key player for the Toffees.
Under Moyes, the midfielder has played regularly, with Dewsbury-Hall being praised for his performances at Everton.
As a result, the addition looks an astute piece of business so far as the Toffees add more creativity to their squad.
However, so far, Dewsbury-Hall has had an issue with his discipline at Everton, which resulted in a suspension after the West Ham match.

7 – Jordan Pickford – £30m from Sunderland
Jordan Pickford is arguably the most successful signing on this list.
The goalkeeper joined Everton from Sunderland for £30m back in 2017 and quickly established himself as the number one at the Merseyside club.
As it stands, he has made over 300 appearances for the Toffees and has proved to be crucial in keeping them in the Premier League in recent years.
Now, Everton are looking to extend Pickford’s contract to ensure his stay at the Merseyside club continues for the foreseeable future.
6 – Michael Keane – £30m from Burnley
Another player who is still at the Merseyside club, Michael Keane has proved to be a valuable asset at the Toffees for years.
Joining from Burnley for £30m in 2017, the centre-back has continued to play an important role in the backline.
Recently, Keane has been highly praised for his performances at Everton, and even scored against West Ham in late September.
With the centre-back’s contract set to expire in the summer, it remains to be seen if he stays at the Hill Dickinson Stadium for the 2026/27 campaign.

5 – Amadou Onana – £33m from Lille
Into the top five, and Amadou Onana joined Everton from Lille for £33m in 2022.
The midfielder was an instant success at the Toffees, becoming a star player in his two seasons at the Merseyside club.
However, Onana did famously miss what would have been a match-winning penalty in the Carabao Cup quarter-final shootout against Fulham in 2023.
In 2024, the midfielder moved onto Aston Villa, where he has since remained.
4 – Alex Iwobi – £35m from Arsenal
One of the more bizzare signings on this list, Everton signed Alex Iwobi for a staggering £35m from Arsenal in 2019, according to Sky Sports on 9 August 2019.
The midfielder went on to play a crucial role in the Toffees’ side for just over four seasons, making 140 appearances and scoring nine times.
During this spell, he was even awarded the Everton Players’ Player of the Year Award for 2023.
While the fee may have been a bit extortionate, Iwobi proved to be a solid player before he left for Fulham in 2023.

3 – Tyler Dibling – £40m from Southampton
The most recent signing on this list, Tyler Dibling made the move from Southampton to Everton before the end of the summer transfer window.
Joining for £40m, the winger is believed to have plenty of potential, being just 19 years old.
Last season, Dibling had impressed at Southampton despite their eventual relegation from the Premier League.
Now, the youngster is looking to break into the first team, and has made four appearances for Everton to date.
2 – Gylfi Sigurdsson – £45m from Swansea
After impressing at Swansea City, Everton made the decision to break their transfer record to sign Gylfi Sigurdsson for £45m in 2017.
The attacking midfielder went on to play a key role in the coming seasons, with his 2018/19 campaign being a particular highlight as he netted 14 goals in all competitions.
His most memorable moment came in the 2020/21 campaign, when Sigurdsson netted Everton’s second in their 2-0 victory over Liverpool at Anfield.
In September 2021, he was left out of the Toffees’ Premier League squad and released upon the expiry of his contract in 2022.

1 – Richarlison – £50m from Watford
Everton’s current record transfer is on Richarlison, who joined the Toffees from Watford in 2018.
The Brazilian became an instant hit and netted 11 plus goals in each of his four seasons at Goodison Park.
As a result, the attacker won numerous individual awards, including Everton’s Goal of the Season for his opener against Liverpool in the previously mentioned 2-0 win at Anfield.
In 2022, Richarlison left the Toffees to move to Tottenham, where he has since won the Europa League.
