Above Man United, but exactly where do Everton rank among world’s best teams?

Everton have vastly improved from where they were this time last year.

David Moyes has transformed Everton since taking over from Sean Dyche in January, winning 11 of his 28 matches in charge.

Moyes is looking to take Everton into the European places, and they had started the campaign well, but have since failed to win in their last four games.

However, the latest evidence suggests that they are in a good position to do so.

Everton are ranked in the top 30 in world football

Everton are building a decent team, and that has been reflected in a new reveal about the best clubs in the game.

The latest Opta power rankings, which ranks the best teams in world football, should be encouraging for Moyes and Co, and proves that they are on an upward trajcetory under the Scotsman.

The Blues are ranked as the 27th best club in the game at the moment with a score on 90.3, above the likes of Manchester United (90.2), Nottingham Forest (89.3) and RB Leipzig (88.2).

The Toffees rank as the 12th-best team in the Premier League, according to the latest set of rankings.

Everton’s position in the rankings explained

Many supporters may wonder how the Toffees can be so high in the rankings.

Opta use an Elo rating system to decide where clubs are ranked in the system, which is a skill score which is also used for the official FIFA rankings.

After each match, ratings points are swapped between teams based on the result, whatever a team gains, the other team loses.

If the stronger team wins, then only a few points change hands, but if the underdog secures victory, then more points are exchanged.

If the match results in a draw, then the weaker team gets a few points, but ultimately, the rating is self-correcting and eventually reaches an accurate reflection on a team’s strength.

The Elo ratings are then transformed into the power ratings, a score between 0 and 100, which makes it easier to compare teams across different divisions and competitions.

The Blues’ focus will now be on climbing up the list, and securing positive results to increase their standing within the game.
