Everton could have unorthodox solution to striker woes – it’s not Iliman Ndiaye

Everton have faced issues with their form in front of goal this season.

The two recognised strikers in David Moyes‘ squad, Beto and Thierno Barry have been struggling to find the back of the net for Everton.

The former has two goals in eight appearances for the Hill Dickinson Stadium, and the France Under-21 international has failed to score in the same number of matches.

Moyes could go with an alternative solution when his Everton side faces Crystal Palace on 5 October, as the Sofascore graphic below shows how the strikers have underwhelmed so far.

Carlos Alcaraz could be the solution to Everton’s problems

Iliman Ndiaye has been mooted as a solution for Everton, but there may be another way for Moyes to solve the issue that is right under his nose.

Carlos Alcaraz could be the perfect option for the Scotsman to resolve the Toffees’ striking woes, if he is given a chance in a false nine role.

Carlos Alcaraz's stats for Everton this season.
Alcaraz’s stats for Everton this season.

Alcaraz has started just three matches so far this season, with 0.67 shots and 0.83 touches in the opposition box, as per Sofascore.

He has three goals and three assists in 22 matches for the Blues, but that has come from the number 10 position or the flank, rather than leading the line, and those numbers would be higher if he was further forward.

Why would Alcaraz be a possible alternative for David Moyes?

For starters, the Argentinian star has featured nine times at centre forward in his career with two goals and two assists, so he can definitely play in the position if called upon.

Secondly, Moyes needs to try something different to get his side firing, if they are to finish in the top half of the Premier League, rather than languishing in the bottom half.

Finally, the 22-year-old has all the attributes required to play there, with strong aerial ability, hold-up play, movement in behind, and shooting technique.

It would be a gamble from the Scotsman to throw the former Southampton man in at the deep end, without much experience.

However, he needs to do something, as the Toffees need the man leading to line to score goals and offer a reliable presence, something neither of his current options are doing.

So, Alcaraz could be an out-of-the-box solution to a big problem for the Merseysiders, if Moyes decides that he needs to change it up, sooner rather than later.
