Everton have reasons to be positive after four-year Premier League reveal

Everton failed to win a game in September in what was a dismal month for David Moyes’ side.

Jarrod Bowen’s equaliser saw Everton held to a 1-1 draw with West Ham on Monday, on a frustrating night for the Toffees.

Michael Keane had opened the scoring with a towering header in the first half, but the chances after the break largely fell to the visitors.

Everton lost 2-0 to Wolves last week and were knocked out of the Carabao Cup, in what was an even more disappointing night for Evertonians.

Moyes faced heavy criticism for his starting line-up against Wolves, after the Scot had decided to make wholesale changes to the team that lost at Anfield.

Everton enjoying best Premier League start since 2021

Jack Grealish set a new Everton record after providing two assists in just his second Premier League start at the end of August.

The Toffees had won three consecutive games, and fans could not have been blamed for starting to dream of big things for Moyes‘ team.

But the four games since have sent Everton crashing back down to Earth, with goal-scoring emerging as a serious issue.

Beto and Thierno Barry have been jostling to play at the head of the attack, but both players have failed to impress in a month in which the Toffees have scored just two goals.

All is not negative for Everton, however, as their league position reveals. The Blues sit ninth in the Premier League, having won two games, drawn two, and lost two.

While not anything to be overly impressed with on paper, the eight-point return actually marks Everton’s best start to a league campaign in four years.

Everton will hope to fare better than 2021-22 team

The 2021-22 season saw the hugely unpopular appointment of Rafa Benitez as Everton manager.

The Spaniard was not exactly a fan favourite at Goodison Park, having served as Liverpool manager for six years between 2004 and 2010, but his team sparked into life at the start of the season.

After six games played, the Toffees sat fifth in the Premier League, having won four and drawn one to earn 13 points.

But that would be end of Benitez’s good times at Everton. The Spaniard would oversee just one win in the next 13 league games, before he was sacked and replaced by Frank Lampard.

Moyes will certainly hope his own next 13 games do not follow the same trend.
