Everton vs Crystal Palace: Four memorable moments ahead of Hill Dickinson clash

Everton host Crystal Palace looking to get back to winning ways on Sunday afternoon.

Everton can end Palace’s remarkable unbeaten streak at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on 5 October, given their previous record against the Eagles.

David Moyes is looking to turn around a run of form that has seen Everton fail to win their last four matches in all competitions.

Palace are the form side coming into the contest, as the Sofascore graphic below shows, but the Blues can pull off an upset.

Crystal Palace 1-4 Everton – 10 November 1993

Everton have not had much luck in the cups recently, exiting the Carabao Cup to Wolves on 23 September.

However, they enjoyed their clash with the Eagles in the 1993 League Cup third-round replay, as they came out 4-1 victors at Selhurst Park.

Dave Watson was the hero with two goals for the Toffees, with a Mark Ward penalty and an Eric Young own goal securing passage to the next round, after ex-England manager Gareth Southgate had opened the scoring for Palace.

Watson secured the Blues’ passage to the next round.

The Blues beat Palace 3-1 in Moyes’ first reign in charge in the 2004/05 campaign, in a game which is best known for a stunning Thomas Gravesen goal.

The Dane had already scored from the spot when he received the ball and curled it past Julian Speroni and into the top corner from around 20 yards out.

Gary Naysmith was sent off for the Blues in the 71st minute, but they held on and even increased their lead when Gravesen found Marcus Bent, who finished past the Palace keeper.

The clash between the sides later that season was memorable for a different reason: the exploits of a young James Vaughan.

The Toffees were already three goals to the good when the Blues academy graduate, aged just 16 years and 270 days old, scored to become the youngest ever Premier League goalscorer.

The Goodison Park outfit moved four points clear of Liverpool in fourth place, and Vaughan’s record remains to this day.

Vaughan scored on his Blues debut to break the record.

This will be the one that is most prominent in the minds of the majority of Blues fans’ memories.

Frank Lampard’s side were 2-0 down but produced a stunning comeback with goals from Michael Keane, Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin sealing survival in the penultimate game of the campaign.

The result sparked a huge pitch invasion as the Toffees made sure of their top-flight status with one match to spare.
