Everton set for squad overhaul as David Moyes is proven right after shock result

Everton’s 2025-26 campaign has taken a turn for the worst in recent weeks.

The Toffees looked set for a memorable campaign after a sensational August.

Everton were even tipped to get Europe as they climbed up the Premier League table.

However, with the Merseyside club now without a win in four matches, concerns have begun to grow.

As a result, David Moyes is likely to be already planning for the upcoming transfer windows, to try and fix the current issues.

Bryan King: David Moyes will look to rid Everton’s of low-quality players

One of the most concerning parts of Everton’s recent run was their defeat to Wolves in the Carabao Cup.

Despite Moyes making numerous changes at Molineux, the Toffees were still expected to win, with the Old Gold hopelessly out of form.

Yet, despite the starting XI being filled with Premier League experience, they were well-beaten, with it ending 2-0 on the night.

Looking back on the match, Bryan King exclusively told Goodison News that he expects Moyes to rid himself of multiple players who aren’t good enough in the coming months.

“I was very disappointed that they went out,” King said.

“I was also very surprised that they didn’t play a first-choice team. This is a competition that you expect them to be looking to get to the final stages.

“I think it shows the full quality of the squad. Moyes has been saying all along that it isn’t strong enough. He’s had to use what was there, and the recruitment was not what it should have been previously.

“If players are under contract and they’re not good enough, you’ve got to try and get rid of them and replace them. I think that’s what’s going to happen in the next part of the season.”

Everton’s quality in-depth is a massive concern

Outside of Everton’s best XI, there are few players who are Premier League quality.

The Carabao Cup defeat showed this, with stars such as Dwight McNeil putting in a shocking performance.

While others like Tyler Dibling will improve over time, realistically, Moyes have to overhaul the majority of his depth to ensure quality is added.

The defeat to Wolves was simply scandalous, and this cannot be allowed to happen again next season.
