Everything David Moyes said about Jack Grealish after England snub

Jack Grealish’s fine Everton form was not enough to earn him a recall into the England squad.

Grealish won the Premier League Player of the Month award for his Everton exploits in August, after notching four assists in three matches.

Everton have relied on his creative abilities, as the Sofascore graphic below shows, and they have still shone, even despite a downturn in form for the Blues in recent weeks.

However, that has not been enough for Thomas Tuchel, who has not selected Grealish for his latest Three Lions squad.

How David Moyes reacted to Jack Grealish’s England snub

Everton star Grealish was not expected to make the squad, after reports emerged on 2 October that he would not be included.

Moyes has reacted to the news that his star man will not be away from Finch Farm when the national team face Wales in a friendly, then Latvia in a World Cup qualifier.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of the Crystal Palace clash on 3 October, he said: “I’m glad I don’t pick the England team, because England teams have got a great group of players to choose from, really top players, all around the country.

“Jack is one of them, Jack is in really good form, but again, I don’t pick the England team and I am glad I don’t.

“I think he has shown the levels he can get to, we are hoping that he continues that, builds on it, makes us better, adding more assists and goals, that is what we hope for.”

Moyes spoke out on Grealish’s omission.

Everton will benefit from Grealish not being with England

Ultimately, despite his public comments on Grealish’s exclusion, Moyes will probably be happy that he has not been included in the squad.

That will mean that the 30-year-old cannot get injured with the national team, and can stay at peak fitness for the Blues, and potentially work on tactical improvements without club football.

Grealish will be fresh for the Blues’ fixtures after the break, so his lack of inclusion in Tuchel’s squad is more of a benefit rather than a hindrance for the Hill Dickinson Stadium outfit.

He deserves to be back in the squad, but it is not a major concern for the Toffees that he is not, and it could even make him play even better.

He will be more determined than ever to get back in, and that can only be a positive for Moyes and Co.
